I started birth control pills for the
first time ever since i'm getting married
in december. Gyni prescribed melodene...
We had to manipulate and move around my
period a bit because I was going to have
my period on my wedding date.. So we
decided to make my period two weeks after
I started(again) and then take it normally
in the pack. So I did the normal pills
then on the 3rd week I took the inactive
pills... Anyway my skin is starting to
break out which is confusing me because I
thought birth control pills are supposed
to be good for your skin? Am I breaking
out because I just started the pills and
my body needs to get used to it??? Or
should I swap. I spoke to my gyni and she
said maybe I should change into diane 35..
But i'm worried because before the pills
I never really had a big acne problem
maybe an occasional 2 during that time of
the month... And i'm scared if I go on
diane seeing as its such a high dose pill
i'll have a hard time falling pregnant?
Have irregular periods once I get off...
Or that my skin will be dependant on it
and that once I get off i'll really start
breaking out.. I've only been on the pill
for 2 weeks and plan on taking it for six
months in total....
Please give me advice... And asap because
if I decide to change im due to change
tommorow... Cuz that would be the last
day of my inactive pill... Thanks :)

You are probably breaking out due to the
hormonal changes in your body. I have a
friend who went on bc for her acne only
and they told her she shuold wait till at
least the 2nd or 3rd pack before they can
really see if its improving. As for
switching thats always a personal
decision, normally low dose pills are
easier on the body, so you will have less
side effects acne being one of them.
High doses dont affect your ability to get
pregnant either, cause once you stop
taking them, about a month later
everything shoudl be back to normal its
just until everything is out of your
system and you get back on a natural
track, which is why some people cant get
pregnant when they initally come off bc,

I think you should change your pill, maybe
try yasmin (ask your gyni about it). I
originally had acne problems (not bad
though) before I started the pill. The
first pills I tried were triphasil and
they made my skin terrible, I then changed
to diane which helped, but not much. I
changed to yasmin when they came out and
now my skin is the best it has ever been.
