Too Far to Travel Posted: 10-18-05 13:04pm
Anyone else have this problem? My
doctor's office and the hospital where he
will deliver my child are about 35 miles
from my house. I could make this drive
in about half an hour without traffic.
With traffic the travel time is anyone's
guess- maybe an hour or more. Do you
think this is too far to travel? Should
I consider changing doctors too someone
closer? I really like my doctor though
and am confident in his skills.
I am just worried about going in to labor
and being stuck in traffic. My next
appointment is not for another month and I
will ask him then.
Let me know what you think.

I would try to get a doctor that is closer
(just in case) I see you live in detroit
and you just never know how the traffic or
roads are going to be. It seems they like
to close them often.
It won't be good to be stuck in traffic in
case of any emergency.

Yup, we have the same problem. My
husband and I just timed the travel time
and it will take us around 30 mins (no
traffic) on a weekend morning; considering
that it is my husband driving (fast!).
With my driving during weekdays, it takes
me 1 hour just to reach halfway (with
traffic and being a bit slow!). Although
my husband was given emergency scenarious
i.E., how to handle giving birth while on
your way to the hospital, I think we do
not like to encourage that it will happen
to us! We were planning to check-in the
hotel just opposite the hospital but it
will be unlikely 'coz I am due during the
peak month of the year (where hotels are
double the price! And will require at
least 1-2 mos advance bkg);
plan b is to hire a driver on stand-by 2
weeks before my due date. Although the
last will still take some time to reach
the hospital but at least I do not have to
wait for my husband to come and pick me up
before we go the hospital. Changing my
dr or hospital is not an option because
they are the best we have. I still don't
have plan c and so on but I hope we could
come up with one, very soon!
