New Relationship With Bipolar Man
Posted: 10-18-05 16:46pm

Hello: I need some advice. I recently started a relationship with a bipolar man. I've been reading these forums and all sorts of information on bp disorder and wondered about my particular situation. He just told me last weekend (after dating for about 1 1/2 months), so all this is new to me. I don't get the impression that it will be easy to have a relationship with him -- are these classic signs? He's very ambivalent about having a relationship, seems to pull away from getting involved and then wants to be really close. My question is: I suffer from mild depression and wonder if it's even advisable for me to try to have a relationship with this man. I think the likely outcome will be that i'll care about him a great deal and he won't respond in kind, because he can't. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi i'm a bipolar man, so I will try to help you out.. Yes it won't be easy but can be done.. If he pulling away from you more then likely he's in mania or upset about something... When we are in mania some of us bipolars think he don't need anyone. But when we are depressed we can get lonely and clingy. I would just give it time and see where it takes you.

Hi, bpjoe23:

thanks so much. It really helps to talk to somebody who knows what it's like. At first I thought it was me, and some of it may be how I present myself and his interactions with me. But I think I may be seeing things that have absolutely nothing to do with me, and that makes me feel better. I will try to follow your advice and stick with it.
