Iam 17 And I Have Seizures Posted: 10-22-05 20:28pm
Iam 17 yrs old when my mother was pregant
with me I was a moth over due.The doctor
just didnt want to deliver me.He said he
had better things to do.But anyways
because he wouldnt deliver me when he
should had, I have seizures now.I had
seizures for the 3 days of my knew
life.The doctors didnt put me on any
medication because they thought I didnt
need any.I didnt have another seizure
intill I was 10 yrs old I had a grand mal
seizure when I was sleeping.The agel10
though 12 I had 5 grand mal seizures.I
would have them when I was sleeping.It was
very scarey for me I would wake up in
amublance.And I would had bitten my
tongue.My doctor had put me on keppra for
my grand mal seizures and it works ever
since I been on keppra I havent had a
grand mal seizure.I stop having seizures
for three years.When I turn 15 I was with
my mom in the car I remeber telling my mom
I hear voices and then I had a seizure.The
seizures I have know are partcual
seizures.If anyone has questions or just
need someone to talk to about epilespy
just let me know you are not alone.It is
hard for me I cant drive or work.I use to
play soccer and I cant play soccer no
more.But hopefully I will be able to drive
work and play the sport I love.The
medication iam on know is keppra and
gabapentin.I have been on gabapentin for 4
months know and I dont care for it much.

when I was in sports, my doctor ok'd
sports to be in. My mom had to fight to
keep me in because the coaches did not
want the responsibility. Playing the
sport you love may help avoid seizures.
My seizures came on from letting them
control me in my thoughts. When I did
enjoyable activities, it was a medicine.
Everyone reacts different, this was mine.
My brother has them too, and when he is
stressed they come about. He did not have
them for over 16 years, and they came back
due to stress from his job. We both have
been through a surgery to remove scar
tissue, I haven't had seizures since then
and no medication after a year of slowly
coming off for all the years I took it.
The surgery did me great, but my brother
had another doctor, mine retired, and he
went through the same surgery, and lost so
much memory, and still has seizures. He
was better before surgery.

Hi how are you.I like to play soccer I
been playing since I was in second
grade.My dad thinks it would be fine if I
play soccer.Since I love it so much. He
thinks it would be good for me.I agree
with heim.Not playing makes me upset its
something that is missing in my life.My
mom thinks I should play she thinks it
will cause more seizures.But I disagree
and my whole family thinks it will be good
for me if I play.When I play I was so
happy.Ever thing that was on my mine that
upset me I would take it out in soccer.My
doctor thinks its a good idea if I play
to.Sucks that my mom wont let me :( but
any ways sorry bout your brother.I hope
its seizures will get controll again.What
medacation is he taking?Glad to hear your

Some studies actually show that being
active is a better way to keep the
seizures away! As long as you take safety
precautions it is usually ok
(for example, dont swim alone, wear a
helmet when biking, no head buts with
soccer.....)
hope you can get better control of your
seizure. I know it is especially tough
for a teen to handle a new chronic health
issue. Hang in there.....You can do great
things, event with this!

Thank you my seizures are mostly control I
havent had one in three months.!!!! :d I
was in long term testin like 3 months
ago.They said right now I havin stress
seizures and I belive I havin them because
I am depress because I dont do what I love
to do.I want to start drivin I have to 6
months seizure free before I am able to
drive.And couple times I was so close I
was 5 months and sucks.Be if I cant play
soccer I found another thing to do.Since I
was in the hospital so much I get bored.So
for halloween I went to the children
hospital and I went out and got gifes
and roses and candy for the childern there
and I also dress up as bell the kids love
it.I know how it feels being in there so I
told them all my story and why I was there
I put smiles on there faces made me feel

What a good attitude! It is so neat that
you did that for the kids in the hospital!
Yes, you do know what it feels like so it
is good to reach out to them that way!!
It does stink to get so close to driving
then have a seizure. Try to think of it
this way, you could have gotten that
license back and then had a seizure right
after and had an accident! I know how
hard it is not to be able to drive at 17.
I had a vision problem at that age and had
to stop driving for awhile.
Yes, find a new thing to do if soccer is
out.....Hoping that you can keep the
seizures away. So good you made it 3
months!
