Bacterial Vaginosis???
Posted: 10-23-05 00:50am

Hey guys...Just a question for those of you who have had it? I have pretty much all of the symptoms, and have had them for awhile now. I went to the doctor and was tested, and the test came back negative! I feel like my doctor failed me! I hate having to put up with it...So i'm wondering, what is it like? What does it feel like etc....So I can tell her that i'm positive that I do have it. Also, can men get/carry bv? Thanks so much guys - I really appreciate it...

Yes guys can get it... They wont show the symptoms of it but they are carriers. If you have it and have sex during that time, there is a good chance you will get it again once you get it cleared up and have sex again with the same guy. I hope that made sense.

Thanks for the reply. So do men take the same antibiotic as women? Also, could someone describe their symptoms to me? Thanks so much.

If you can convince the guy to go to the doc to get tested then yes they will more than likely get meds to clear it up.

As for symptoms, for me it was like a super bad yeast infection. Discharge was really lumpy/chunky. Really bad smell too... Almost fishy. And then the things that come with yeast infections, like lots of itching and such.

I was starting to wonder if I have bv too, but now i'm confused. I have a very bad odor, especially when I am aroused. Sometimes I even smell it when i'm just sitting around doing nothing, but most of the time not. Also, i'm not sure if the lube my body produces when aroused is considered discharge or not, but it is really thick and white and gross looking, sort of like nasty looking yogurt or something (i can't describe it very well). But it isnt chunky, and I dont itch (aside from razor burn). I'm not sure if I have any symptoms of a yeast infection, because i've never had one that I know of, so dont know what to look for on that. I havent always been like this, either. It used to smell just a very little bit after spending some arousing time with my boyfriend, but now it is very prominent. Any ideas on what it is or what I should do?

Your best bet would be to see your doc. They should be able to tell right away whether or not its bv.

Most women don't even know they have bacterial vaginosis. It isn't particularly dangerous, just an inflammation that needs to be treated. Usually, your gynocologist will treat you with an antibacterial medication called metrogel for 5-10 days. The symptoms don't really include itching-- at least they didn't for me-- however, a strange smell, a thick discharge and just general irritation are signs of it. It can't be treated with yeast infection medication-- as that isn't an antibacterial cream-- bacterial vaginosis is really nothing more than the good bacteria and the bad bacteria in your body becoming off balance. See your doctor. Best of luck!

Oh, and the metrogel is -really- irritating and causes a thick white discharge as the medication reacts with the bacteria.

I think I might have bv too. After sex especially I notice a fishy smell. I had always thought it was because of the semen. So I guess if I go to the doctor and am trated, will it reaccur after sex again if my husbandisnt treated also???

So, I went to the gyno a while back, and she did some test on the acidity of the discarge, and said it wasnt bacterial, that it was a yeast infection even tho I didnt, and still dont, have any irritation. Got slapped with a $60 rx, and it worked for probably a week or so, but im back to being really smelly whenever im aroused, no irritation, tho now there's no discharge either, just that horrible smell. Any thoughts?

Why do you refuse to take the meds? Don't you want to get rid of it?

Because itll just keep coming back and there is a chance that it may go away on its own. The meds are disgusting and make me soo sick when I take them. I just don't know what to do anymore. :(

 I have had bv for almost 7 years now and I would really like to talk to someone who has cured it. I have tried almost everything without much success. I've been with my boyfriend for six months now and I do think he loves me but his ex-girlfriend keeps on calling him because she wants him back and I think that because I have this problem he might decide to go back with her. It's really effecting my self esteem I think about it all of the time then end up feeling frustrated because I feel helpless to do anything about it.

Have you checked to see if you have a yeast infection, if you try using vagistat1, it has a vasoline type mixture, it sticks to the bacteria to help fight off yeast and clears it up quickly..Also try using a vinger and water douch after sex...

Or even after being treated for any type of infection..There is something call tricamonus short term "trick" this is only given to the woman from a man who has a dirty penis, they can carry an infection, they dont have any symptoms like women do..But we get the awful discharge and fishy smelling vagina..But you doctor would've picked this up during your exam..A dirty penis could be anything..Not cleaning themselves after sex, or having multiple partners and not showering..I clean myself and my hus after each sexual encounter to help keep the germs down..By using a hot soapy towel and peeling back the skin and cleaning it can always help..Of course i've never had trick but my girlfriend did and it was an awful experience for her..

It's not a yeast infection because i've had tests. I've had antibiotics countless time and I refuse to take them anymore because it's just comes back. I need to get to the root of the problem and eliminate it completely but I don't know how to. I've even tried chinese herbs but they didn't work.

No. If a man get a yeast infection in comes from a woman who had it first. If you had a yeast infection and you gave it to him through sex, if you treated yours, you have him treated too, otherwise you guys can pass it back and forth to each other. I suggest you have him treated. Even though your bf has diabetes that is out of control most of the time men get a real bad urinary tract infection.
