It's only natural to be scared. I was.....But it wasn't that bad.....For me anyway. Just really try and relax....It helps!

I totally feel the same way...I've went in four times for a pap and I get so freaked out that they won't do it. So they have to give me some nerve meds next time (to kinda make me out of my mind)...My doc wanted me to try to go to a woman doctor first before nerve meds though to see if that would work, which I don't think it will...

I don't know what to do, I know it's something that all women have to do but I just can't. I've tried and I even told the doctor to just do it even if I was crying. And I had my hubby go in with me and everything to try to calm me down..

I'm sure it's not as bad as it seems but it's so hard for me. Is there anything you ladies can tell us that might help ease the fear?

I just had mine done 2 weeks ago its very uncomfortable and kinda embarrasing but its really not that bad...After all if your pregnant this little thing called a pap test is nothing compared to childbirth! Honestly try and relax like the other people on here have said. It dont hurt! Best of luck!

It's the fear of the unknown.....
If you try to relax, your muscles won't be so tight....Which will make it much easier on you. What happens when you're tense is your muscles tighten and it hurts more.

Maybe try listening to music while having this done ...

That's what I keep telling myself.

I go in calm and collected and I am okay up until the time when they stick those clamps in. Then they keep saying relax honey, it's not that bad...And I usually get really mad because I just want to get it over and done with but they won't shut up and do it, but they won't because i'm tense. Well yeah, I think it's natural to be tense when some lady and man pry's your legs open and then tells you to relax when they are sticking clamps and a stick in there. Then my doctor says "really it's not that bad" and I was getting a little snappy and said "really? When was your last pap" he backed off then.

The reason I think it's so bad for me is that my first pap was painful because they broke my hymen (spelling?) they said it hurt because I was still a virgin. My doctor was a young pup too, and kinda cute, until I kicked him. Woops. I was only 19 and getting married in a month, so I was totally stressed out. And ever since then I haven't been able to go through with it.

I haven't got to use the meds yet. My doctor is sending me to a woman first and told me to have them give me the meds, but they said the can't on the first visit because I have to be "with it" to sign papers and stuff. They said going to a woman is way different, I don't know but we'll find out.

It's really not that bad, I just get tense when the doctors get halfway in and then stop because they need to make sure i'm "okay" then they say well we'll give you another month and you can come back and we'll try again. The last appointment I had I got so tense, even with my husband beside me holding my hand, that I clenched my fist so hard that I drew blood from my own hand with my nails. I didn't even know I was hurt, until the nurse insisted I have a bandaid...I said for what? And looked down and my hand had blood all over it. My doctor said it has something to do with my nerves and it's nothing I can control and need to be "medicated" next time, but wants to see if a woman might work first.

Really, I know even if it's hard it's something that we all have to face. So I have to just be strong and let them do it I guess. Maybe wear a face mask so they can't see how i'm feeling (lol) that's the problem every time they see i'm upset so they don't do it. I am a smaller person too and I can feel "everything" they do so i'm a little jumpy. I really want to have a baby in the next year so this is just the "pre steps" I have an appointment in january, that's the earliest they could get me in with the lady doctor. So I might just call my own doctor and ask him to give me just a small dose of something for my nerves and give it a shot. There's always something that scares a person to death...This is what scares me, but i'll just have to get over it

I don't know what scares me....Just does...Not that it's embarrassing or that it's going to hurt...I've been through worse...I don't honestly know what scares me....I guess it's the idea of being in the room with ppl I don't know looking at personal things...Even though I take my hubby in though I still get squirmy. He always jokes and asks "if it would help, i'll strip too"

You will be fine! What are you gonna go when you have to have that baby and people you dont know are looking at personal things? I mean a simple pap test isent as bad as labor! It takes a matter of a few minutes and its all done...Having a baby can take hours or more! Please just get ur pap done! Its very important and it can tell alot of things like cancer and such!

Thanks I know. I already told my family and friends...Nobody in the room but my hubby when we have a baby...Something I want the two of us to share together, but alone if you know what I mean. It's too special and I want jeremiah to be the first one to see our baby. I'll get through it...I'll just have to put away my fears and hope for the best. I think maybe a woman doctor might understand more and not be so scared to hurt me like a man doctor....The guys don't really know what it feels like, maybe a woman will know if I just experience it once and see that it's not that bad, that i'll be able to handle it from then on.

No i'm not pregnant yet. I'm just on the site to see what other ladies go through during pregnancy to see what I need to expect and how to take care of myself before and during. I want it to be perfect.

I'm 21 and have been married 2 years on tuesday next week.

We want to start having a family this coming year. We have to sell our house now so we can have a better home for our baby. Right now we live in a real nice neighborhood, but right next door to a trucking company and a bar/grill for harley people.

Paps have always been painful for me!!!. The last time I had a male doc give me a pap and I was so pissed at him! He was telling me to relax and looked at me like I was crazy for feeling discomfort I was about ready to cry!
