I am a 19 yrs old female. I was watching
the news the other evening and one of the
topics was ovarian cancer, and how it is a
silent killer. I was wondering if it is
possible for someone so young, like myself
to get ovarian cancer ?? I was reading
the symptoms, like increased urination,
constant fatigue, and bowel movement
changes ?? I am experiencing all of
these. I don't I think the reason why I
am always tired is because I work and go
to school. Now, well none of this runs in
my family, I am still worried. I think
mostly the reason is because, a few months
back I had a cone biopsy done to remove
pre-cancerous cells from my cervix. I'm
not sure what is happening. But would my
gyno even think to check me for ovarian
cancer ?? I mean I go for a pap smear
every 3 months, and I know it does not
detect ovarian cancer, but he does check
them...I am confused...I have read that
ovarian cancer really only affects people
going through menopause ??!?!? If anyone
could help, it would be great !!! Are
there tests I could get done. I mean I
live in canada, so there is no cost !!
Any options would be great.

First off I would say you need to make an
appointment with your family doctor. The
symptoms you list could be a number of
things and at your age, 19, it is
extremely rare (but not impossible) for
you to have ovarian cancer. When you go
to your doctor make sure they run a
thyroid panel as the symptoms you are
describing could be your thyroid having
problems. Try not to worry and see your
doctor is the best thing to do.
