Please Help My Dad
Posted: 10-26-05 23:09pm

My dad has been a smoker for about 25 years. He is 45 years old and just quit 1 year ago. When he quit, he started feeling a pain in his throat as if someone was squeezing it. He had a really bad cough, went to see the doctor and was told he has bronchoconstriction.

The doctor prescribed him all sorts of inhalers but my dad said none seemed to work well. As weeks went by he went to another test and got tested for allergies. Turns out he was allergic to chicken, beef, milk and several other foods, as well as dust & pets.

On the diagnosis the doctor also wrote some asthamtic bronchitis and hay fever. I ust dont understand how this is possible. No one else in my family has any allergies.

My dad says he feels ok some days, but other days poorly. He always looks tired but I think its from the inhalers hes taking.
Right now I am in a state of panic and depression, im trying to do good in school and everything but its so hard accepting this. What will my dads life expectancy be? He seems awfully depressed about the illness because somone told him its like a slow death sentecnce. He has real bad mood swings but perhaps its from quitting smoking. Over the phone yesterday when he was talking he was breathing very deeply. Does anyone know whats going on and how I can help him?

Thanks you for your help
