Diary of a Nickel-allergy Sufferer Posted: 10-29-05 22:31pm
This will be the 14-day account of the
healing (and future preventative) therapy
of my newly-diagnosed contact dermatitis
(specifically nickel). I am now using
topicort cream (desoximetasone) at the
moment, and for the next 2 weeks, i'll be
keeping you all up to date on my condition
as it, hopefully, improves.
My rash has been localized on my abdomen
for the last 5-6 months, and has
progressed to 2 spots on the back of my
lower-back, and some sympathetic reactions
on my two elbows. The rash on my abdomen
has been the worse hit, showing signs of
significant swelling, redness and oozing
when scratched. The skin has become
noticeable thicker, crustier and redder
that usual. It was sore to the touch, and
extremely itchy. It is mainly located
right under my bellybutton.
Hopefully this will help anyone else who's
suffering from nickel-allergies
(specifically from their jeans) and to
give hope that you can overcome it!

Alright! So i'm on day 3 of the ointment
(it was prescribed on oct 26, but I only
started using it fully on the 27th, twice
a day as ordered.)
the patch is now noticeable less red,
though the center is still quite red,
while the edges are more or less pink.
The patch is also much smoother, with no
more crusts or flaky skin.
The patch on my abdomen has not been itchy
while on the prescription so far, though
the two spots on my lower back have still
been itchy a few times, as does my elbows
(perhaps it's from my clothing? Maybe
it's a formaldehyde thing too.)
the patch has also stopped oozing (mainly
because I don't scratch it anymore), but
there is still some tenderness. I put
some packing tape on the studs of my jeans
inside, and I have covered them with clear
nailpolish to avoid irritation.
That's all so far!

Wow, it's been awhile since I replied huh?
So much of a diary..
Anyways, so it's day 11 I believe, and the
redness has been reduced significantly,
there are no more open wounds to account..
The skin has become much more smooth to
the touch and no longer itches (best news
yet!) there is some redness, but I believe
once the healing continues from all the
scratching, and the skin continues to
shed, the redness will be gone completely
within the next month or so.
