Ovulating

I've been using the ovulation predictor
kits (first response) for the past week,
and sure enough on day 14 the test strip
showed a positive result. I also had all
the signs of ovulation (middle pain, egg
white mucus). This was the first time
i've ovulated since going off the pill in
july, and I think my cycle is regulating
itself. We had sex on day 13 and day 14
(the day I tested) as well....What do you
think the chances are? I'm so
excited...I was starting to think I was
broken or something because it took me so
long to get my period and ovulate after
going off the pill!
Thanks!
Kath

Any given cycle, there is a 20-25% chance
of pregnancy. You sure timed it well...
Lots of baby dust to you!! Good luck

Basal Body Temperature (bbt)?

Ummm sounds like as good a chance as
any....Just wondering if you are charting
your bbt b/c if you are sometimes after
conception your temp stays slightly higher
than normal...That could give you a little
reassurance...But if you are not tracking
your bbt then my guess is just wait until
a day or two before your period is due and
try one of those early pregnancy tests
like ept. I hope you will update us and
let us know what happens. Good luck to
you!

Lilypad, I was charting my bbt, soon after
I got off the pill. It was so crazy
then, though. Sort of funny..My husband
blew up the chart on the computer, printed
it and gave it to me so I can chart it..A
month later he tells me it looks like a
crazy person's brain waves! So we
stopped, and then I never got back to it.
I want so badly to be pregnant, I am
imagining symptoms I think. Like
tiredness (i think that's the time
change), headaches (i think that's stress)
and the only weird one was a sort of
crampy pain I had in the area of my left
ovary today for quite a few hours. I
know it's too early to feel anything, but
still! I'm going to drive the hubby and
myself crazy!

I am doing the same thing...Driving myself
and others around me crazy. Just think
when we actually get pregnant..Then
they'll see crazy!

I've got to throw my 2 cents in on
charting temps.
Yes it gives you the pattern for your
cycle, however I really think it's more
work than it's worth. The most important
information it gives you is that you have
indeed ovulated...However it doesn't give
you very much warning (if any) that you
are coming up to ovulation. Ob/gyn's
reccomend doing it for one or two cycles
so that they can see the patterns in your
cycle.
I think too it adde a lot of stress into
your life because you must wake up the
same time each day of your cycle to take
those temps. Any little thing can throw
off your temps. A cold, getting up to
pee too close to your rising time, heavy
blankets, no blankets...Etc.
I believe that checking your cm is even a
better indicator of where you are in your
cycle than temping is.
There's a great book out there called
taking charge of your fertility. It
helps give you information about all of
the signs your body gives off about where
you are in your cycle. It's got charts,
graphs, photos and a ton of information:

of course this is just my opinion...And I
know everyone has their own way of
thinking....

I have to say I agree about the bbt
charting- I did it for three months and
found it really hard to get an accurate
reading. I have such a crazy
schedule-sometimes i'm up really late at
night, I felt like my schedule was really
affecting the readings. I used the
disposable ovulation detecting kits last
summer & had a hard time detecting an
ovulation as well (and it gets really
expensive!) I starting using the actual
ovulation monitor last month-got the test
sticks on amazon.Com for a good price and
predicted the surge as well!

Crazy Sleep And Wake Times And Bbt Charting
Posted: 11-08-05 09:50am

I know the bbt "directions" say to take
your temp around the same time everyday,
when you wake up. I personally have a
crazy schedule, too. I work nights,
7p-7a (12 hour shifts) three days a week.
The nights I am not working I dont stay
up as late so my sleep/wake schedule tend
to vary alot.
The best thing I can figure is that I
will take it everyday when I wake up no
matter what time it is. I am not sure if
this will throw off the results or not!
I was charting for a while but I kept
forgetting and decided that I will just
start over when I start my next period.
I printed a bbt chart from www.Justmommies.Com
and it says to start charting the first
day of your cycle- which I think is the
first day of your period. I still have a
couple weeks until then I think so I am
going to be better and chart every day
next time.

A schedule that is different every day,
especially in regards to sleeping is going
to effect your results considerably. In
all honesty, I doubt you'll get valid
information from it.

Sorry lily :(
honesty, I believe the only information
bbt's give you that is really worthwhile
is letting you know that you have
ovulated. It really doesn't give you
great information before ovulating. Plus
I also find it's very stressful.
Ob/gyn's may ask for that info, but that
is only to get a sense of what your cycle
is like as a whole.
This is just my opinion of course......

Thats alright, its just a waste of time I
guess. I guess it gave me a false sense
of control over my fertility.

There are other ways to check for
fertility signs. The clearest way to me
is through checking cervical mucus.
Cervical mucus during your fertile portion
of the month should be abundant and of an
egg white consistancy. It should also be
clear.
After ovulation it will become thick and
whitish.
Try that!

Hmmm that is true, and I have been paying
attention to that. Last week (only a
week after my period) I felt a slight
cramp-ovulation im thinking- and my
cervical mucas was egg white-like and my
cervix was low I could easily feel it, so
we did alot of the baby dance. Im kind
of thinking we may have concieved, but I
am not trying to get my hopes up quite yet
becuase that was pretty early in my cycle
to have ovulated. Anyway I have had alot
of heartburn and been very emotional
lately. However my body likes to play
tricks on me and I cant really trust it
anymore! So once again I will wait and
see, meanwhile I am trying to mentally
prepare myself to quit smoking...Again.
(and yes I know that smoking is bad bad
bad for fertility) I picked up smoking
agin in july after my stillborn I have
been sad...
