Diagnosis And Prognosis R/t Chondromalacia In a 36 Yr Old Posted: 12-08-03 16:42pm
I've been having problems with both knees
for 6 years. Gone from an acl recon in
the left with devel of cysts, reacting to
the implants to pain in the right. Right
one got infected 2 years ago after an
arthroscopic lateral release (my own
fault) resulting in acute septic arthritis
requiring 2 arthroscpic i&d's and a
manipulation 12 weeks out. Things
gradually getting under control when in
jan. Devel more and more pain in the
right. Gone from various
antiinflammatories to finallys seeing my
orthopod again. After 2 months of pt and
no activity besides my work as a
perioperative nurse (am normally very
active) and 3 injections, had another
arthroscopy a week ago. Found lots of
scar tissue as expected and some synovial
inflammation but also generalized grade
iii chondromalacia of the right knee.
What does the future look like for me??
Started on glucosamine immediately, on
bextra still for a while to help with any
inflammation postop, take multi-vits and
1000mg ca++ daily, am normal to
underweight depending on how much pain
i've been in (5'4" and weigh anywhere from
105-97#), normally ski, lift weights, do
aerobic activities, stretch and eat a
healthy diet with no smoking, excess
drinking.
Am too young for all this! Please give me
your projection so I can plan accordingly.
As a nurse, I have this control issue!
If I can plan, I can cope much better!
Tia.
