Hey everyone, you have probably read my post about cysts on ovaries. I have read on some internet sites that it is good to be on the pill if someone has cysts, but I am not sure whether to get on the pill or not. I told my doctor I have lotsa hair grow back quick like on my legs for example and she said it would be a good idea to think about getting on the pill. I also asked her if it would benefit me because of having cysts and she said its up to me and to think about it. So my doctor did not answer my questiin.
Also my bf uses condoms all the time at least for another yr to yr and a half only. So if I go on the pill now, im just worried it wil mess my periods up because my periods are not normal and regualr as it is because of the cysts and therefore wont the pill messs hormone levels up? And have I got a better chance of becoming pregnant in about a yr or yr and a halfs time if I do not start on the pill now, or will it make my fertility lever better by then? Pls post back

I have been on the pill for about 5 years now. From things that my doctors have told me is, birth control an actually cause cysts, not help prevent them (but there could be studies that show they help in preventing them, be more clear in asking your doctor). There are always chances of every risk that they warn you about, but that happens in a very small percentage of women. I don't think hair growth has anything to do with birth control.. Unless you have higher testosterone levels.

I would advise getting on the pill. Especially since you are sexually active. And about your periods, if anything, birth control will help with that. Before I got on the pill, mine were completely messed up, which was the reason I started taking them. I personally don't trust condoms by theirself. They're great for prevention of std's (always use them, even if a partner tells you they're clean). But I would always use a back up method.

With not using birth control, your chances of becoming pregnant are obviously higher. Not being on them wouldn't increase you becoming more fertile.

If you don't think you could remember taking your pill everyday, there are other forms of birth control. There is the depo shot (i think you get it every 6 months) and there are other things like the patch that you put on once a week. If you're not ready to take care of a child, get on birth control.

I hope I helped with answering your questions.

Thank you very much that was very helpful and I would be happy to become pregnant anytime, im just worried because the docotr said cysts can make it difficult sometimes and I have read some studies that takiing the pill might even reduce cysts because the eggs aren't relaesed or something. But if I start on the pill now, my periods would become more regular which would be a good thing but I don't get it you said being on the pill/not being on it does not increase fertility, then why do people say that irregualr periods can make it hard for a woman to become pregnant (like not a good sign) as cysts can make you have irregualr periods so the piil would regualte periods without having any affect on getting pregnant easily after being off the piil.
