Gall Bladder And Panic Attacks
Posted: 11-01-05 21:31pm

I had my gall bladder out in july of 2005. It was all of a sudden, no warning whatsoever. Thought I was having a heart attack.
After the surgery I was fine. Went back to working out, ect...Within 10 days. For the last month or so, I have developed panic attacts. When I feel anything going on inside of me, I begin to have a panic attack. (heart rate speeds up, aches and pains in chest, feel fidgity and like i'm going to pass out). I saw my doctor, and I am now on zoloft.

I haven't felt good for about a month now.
Aside from the panic attacks, something just doesn't feel right. I notice it especially after I am finished eating sometimes. I feel like food is sitting right in the middle of me and not moving. Is this some sort of digestion problem as a result of losing my gall bladder?
And does it sometimes take a few months after losing your gall bladder for your body to adjust? It's driving me crazy, because for the first 2 months after the surgery I felt great.

Can anyone comment?

Thanks in advance!

I to felt great for a few months after my gallbladder surgery this past april. Then around the first of september I started to develop pain in my ribs front & back. Also stomach pain that has felt like a burning band across my belly between the two ribs. Also have a weird feeling inside, at times I even feel all inflamed. Been back to the dr a few times now. This past friday they put me on prilosec otc to see if that helps. Day four of taking it & the pain is better. They also think I may have sphincter of oddi dysfunction, which some develop after the gallbladder is removed. This can be remedied via a minor surgery with an upper endoscope, but hubby just recently lost his job, so that's not an option at this point. They said it's not life threatening, but need to go back to eating like I did before surgery, low fat etc. Blah, hoping the prilosec will help without having to eat like that again!!

Hope you get some answers soon.

Blue

ps- i'd also like to hear if anyone else on this board has had similar problems with digestion & pain after gallbladder surgery. Really frustrating.

Sorry to hear about your digestion problems. I am also in the same boat. I was starting to feel better then all of a sudden I am almost back to square one. I have weird aches and pains all over including in my left shoulder blade(use to be right shoulder blade before gb removal), a burning sensation across my whole abdomen almost daily on an empty stomach, and the feeling that food is sitting in my stomach. After I eat anything--whether it be a cracker or a chip I get nauseous, dizzy, shaky. At times I eat something and about 15 mins later I have nausea, cramps and diarrhea (in that order) that is yellow. I went back to my family Dr. And he ran some blood tests and everything was "perfect". So this has me completely puzzled! My gastro Dr. Is not at all helpful--he said he is "done with me" because he doesn't know what is wrong.
I have to admit that the pain I am having is not as severe as before the gb was removed...Just more of an annoyance.

Blue, I am sorry you are having problems, we seem to be experiencing almost the same things at the same times...Not fun at all! Maybe it was just a bad time when we had our gb removed. ;o(

anyhow, I hope everyone finds some answers and if so, please do post!

Hi donna,
it is really weird we are having similar problems at the same times. We even had our gallbladder removed for the same reason, inflammation & polyps. I felt really good after surgery till about july. They slowly started going downhill. Fortunately I have not had the nausea as much as you've been experiencing. I had the dizziness really bad for about 3 weeks back in september. About that time the pain really kicked in. I've been having some chest pain again to...Almost like before surgery. Along with a weird buzzing feeling in the center of my chest of & on the past 6 months & more in the last few days. I've seen my dr so much this year we are now on a first name basis. She's even been letting us know of jobs she hears about that my hubby is qualified for.

When will the madness end? Hope you feel better soon donna.

Take care,

Heather and others,

the dizziness i'm thinking is related to the horrible sinus infections I have had and my ears. I am going to see an ent in the near future about that but I don't know what on earth could be causing the nausea. I had it before my gb was removed and now having it again. Maybe I grew a gb back lol. Also I am experiencing this awful fatigue to the point where I have to have afternoon naps. I hate feeling like an 80 year old trapped in a 26 year old body!
All these problems have been causing me to have almost daily panic attacks--which can't possibly be helping my already damaged stomach. I also hate the thought of being on any sort of med. For a long period of time. I have already been on the pantoloc for about 6 months now and it helps at times but others it is just a plain waste.
Urrrrggg I am slowly going crazy--as the song says!

Hope you all feel better soon! We are definately over-due for that--we have suffered enough!!!
