Placenta Previa And Preterm Labor Please Read N Help Posted: 12-08-03 19:24pm
Five weeks ago I was told I have full
placenta previa; every time I go for an
ultra sound my due date is set back
because of the size of the baby. With my
own research I found that placenta previa
can cause low birth weight, I found this
out with no thanks to my doctor. My
questions never seem to get answered.
Anyhow I also read that placenta previa
can cause preterm labor and I just want to
know how and why. I have had some cramps
that feel like what I have been told is
effacing. I just want some advise and
knowledge on how and why. Can I prevent
preterm birth???? Oh
yeah; according to my last period i'm 27
weeks pregnant, according to ultra sound
i'm 22 weeks along. What is going on???

I had placenta previa with my first child.
There is no way to stop preterm labor. I
was in the hospital on bed rest for 2
months to keep me from going into labor.
I'm sure your doctor explained that you
will have to have a c-section, instead of
a regular delivery. The pains are normal,
from what I was told it's just your uterus
getting bigger. Your ultra sound goes by
the size and measurements of your baby,
having placenta previa can cause your baby
to be smaller then normal. This does not
mean your child will be born small, it
just means that you will have to wait till
you're further along for your ultra sound
to actually seem more correct. Like I
said I had placenta previa and my son came
out at 7lbs 6oz. Let me know if you have
any more questions and I will do my best
to try and help you out.

Mama,
thank you for responding. I was starting
to wonder if anybody responded to
questions other than girls freaking out
because their stomach is turning and they
can't take a pregnancy test yet because
their period isnt due for a few more days.
Thank you. :d

I had total placenta previa last year and
on march 26th I was admitted to the
hospital. I was freaking out because I
wasn't due till may 30th and I had 3 small
children at home. They told me that the
baby would be born early so as to prevent
labour. They gave me a steroid shot so
the baby's lungs would develope sooner,
and then toward the end, I had
amniocentesis to test the maturity of the
baby's lungs. He was born on may the 7th,
weighing in at 7lbs 10 oz. He did have a
few small breathing problems at first.
But he came home 10 days after being born
and is perfectly healthy now.
I never did spot or bleed, I was very
crampy and made sure the nurses knew. If
you start bleeding, do not hesitate, get
to the hospital.
It is possible for your placenta to
migrate up though. There was a girl in
the hospital at the same time I was in.
She had total placenta previa, however in
her first amnio, the found her placenta
had moved, and she went home.
