Burning Stomach Pain, But "the Tests Came Back Normal&q
Posted: 11-02-05 20:41pm

I had an upper gi and ultrasound yesterday to look for the reason why i've woken up 3 times in the middle of the night with a burning stomach pain that is so bad that it lasts for 2 hours and i'm left flopping around until it subsides.

It's in a very specific spot in my stomach. It burns like someone is pouring acid or putting out a cigarette in that one spot. If my entire stomach hurt, I wouldn't bother.

However, it appears that my upper gi and ultrasound are normal and so I don't know what to do now. I've never been to this doctor before because I was switching from another doctor who not only had a creepy male nurse on his staff who expressed dismay that the doctor didn't invite him back in to watch the physical exam (they physical exam that he botched which led me to go to a real gynecologist who told me the reason why the doctor wasn't able to get the specimen that he needed) and so forth.

Anyway, this new doctor seemed to have this attitude of "here's some aciphex for acid reflux in case your tests come back normal...." and i'm thinking "duh! Did you not see that I was not pointing anywhere near my chest?" so i'm just worried that he's going to blow me off as yet another victim of gerd.

What should I do? Wait for another episode of this to happen or could there be another reason why I have this pain besides an ulcer or gallbladder that I should be aware of?

Hello,
my stomach pain is located in the middle upper part of my stomach. I have had these "stomach attacks" off and on for over 15yrs.
Since 2002, I have had every test possible trying to figure out what the pain is, no luck. I have been to er many times.
Pain will start in this area and increase in intensity, lasting anywhere from 2-6 hours.
My endoscopy/colonoscopy in 2002 was normal. Problem still continued.
Was on pain meds all this time. My primary doc didn't want me to take them anymore, which I agreed, however there was no relief.
I went back for endoscopy/colonoscopy 3 wks ago, gi couldn't complete the colonoscopy, he said it was twisted. He only got the mid point of traverse colon.
I was out of town and ended up in er, really bad attack, pain same area but included my entire stomach and burning pain.
Hospital did a ct scan and they said all looked good.
Just had be test and the report showed a very redundant colon, sigmoid area and mobile cecum, also redundant. Be showed the cecum move to the mid-upper quandrant (wouldn't this be the same place my pain is in/) and then the cecum was seen in the lower right quadrant.
Gi said there is no guarantee this is the problem, but it is the only hope I have had in all these years.
Am going to go to a colorectal surgeon for him to read xrays. Do you think this is what could be causing pain? I am at the end of my rope on this. Husband thinks i'm faking and that I should just suck it up.

Pancreas?

I read up on something interesting.

They said that the pancreas can also cause problems, and, coincidentally, my pain seems to subside by rolling up in a fetal position and lying on my stomach.

However, it doesn't totally match, either.

The annoying thing is that I tried to call and get the nurse on the phone, but the fool called my home phone number again (even though I explicitly gave my work number and said that I did have a question about my results) and simply parroted my results.

I mean, duh. I heard what she said the first time! You would think that working in a doctor's office that she would understand that having an x-ray is not the same thing as having a cure to the problem! Then again, i'm sure a good quarter of the population on the bottom rung of health care jobs ended up there watching commercials for itt tech.

Redundant Colon

Hi...I jsut came back form the "gi specialist" today... He was in the room a total of 7 minutes. He came highly recommended too..Go figure.
Ive had a ton of testing in the past and have been having pain right between my ribs mid abdomen. Constipation is a horrible problem. I was told to quit taking thezelnorm..That it can cause severe problems...And cause you to have to get a colectomy.
I was told to start using miralax (which ive tried previously)... And also to take 2 ducolax tablets every night.
Im always feeling nauseated, bloated, etc.
My colon is elongated and twisted and I have the slow motility to go along with it.
I was told to stop taking every medication because that makes constipation worse. (ive got high chol. And high blood pressure too.)
the specialist told me to drink more water, eat fruits and vegetables... Thank you mr specialist.... It just cost me $175.00 for you to take 7 minutes of your time to tell me that crap...Ive been suffering for 20 years now..! Good luck to all..Hope u find a remedy!
