Tongue "thing"
Posted: 12-08-03 23:23pm

A dark "spot" has appeared under the tip of my tongue. It is about 1.5 cm in diameter and is a dark blue/purple color like a bruise. At first I thought maybe I had bitten my tongue in my sleep, but there is no pain and no healing. It is also kind of in the form of a lump or hardened tissue mass. In other words it feels solid to the touch, at least more solid then the rest of my tongue. It is not causing me any problems at the moment but I am very curious on what it is and if I should perhaps go get it checked out. I really would like to avoid my base clinic though. Wink

ok I really should have been more specific on this, my apologies. When I stated that it appeared I did not mean recently. This "spot" has been there for quite some time now. Would a bite injury really linger like this, and there would be pain right?

It most likely is a bite related condition. It is worth getting checked out, although such problems are often referred to an oral surgeon for expert opinon.

It may well be inflamed and swallon tissue, which in itself is not dangerous, however it is important to remember that the tongue is a very rich source of blood flow and any form of rupture could cause you problems.
