Hi all i'm 25 and married and recently my
husband and I started talking about going
off the pill and trying....I have a couple
of questions....How long after you go off
the pill should you wait before trying to
conceive.....What are some foods I should
start eating or eat more of to help
prepare my body for pregnancy....And last
but not least i'm overweight and really
wanting to remedy that before I get
pregnant but if anyone can tell me a good
meal plan to continue on my weight loss
while i'm pregnant what would be great
thanks. All looking forward to any
responses..

Sorry this is going to be long, I hope I
dont take to much of your time! If I were
you I wouldn't go on a big diet change, it
can throw your period off and cause you to
be irregular. However if you are trying
to lose weight try going for a 1 to 2 mile
walk everyday. I know it is hard to do if
you are really busy, but sometimes you
have to make time for yourself. Wake up
early or after you get off work or maybe
after dinner, but try to fit it in. The
benefit of exercising in the morning is it
jump starts your metabolism for the day.
Another thing, if you get pregnant,
continue to walk becasue its really good
for your stomach muscles. I walked three
days a week when I was pregnant and I only
pushed 4 times before my daughter was in
this world. My doctor said it was because
I walked and strengthened my stomach
muscles (that is what you use when
pushing). Try cutting your carbs down,
dont go on a low carb diet frenzy because
you dont want to get you cycle all crazy.
I found that cutting my carbs by 40-60 a
day made me lose 10-15 lbs in a month.
For example look at the nutritional label
when you eat stuff and monitor for a week
how your carb intake is. Then try to
adjust it slightly. One bowl of cereal
has anywhere from 20-40 carbs and thats
just the cereal (no milk and only 1 cup
serving). If I were trying to get
pregnant I would eat lots of veggies and
fruits; try to limit your grease intake
and have several meats daily. Try to get
in the habit of not eating much sweets,
cause when and if you get pregnant that
will be a hard thing to do if you are not
prepared. Another thing my doctor told me
when I was pregnant to lay off of juice
and milk. I had a sweet tooth like no one
could imagine and I drank it religiously
to keep myself from eating junk food. I
was gaining my weight from the empty
calories and he told me that too much of
something can be a bad thing. He said
you are better off to grab a hersey bar
(thats what I craved) than drinking 2-3
glasses of juice. Compare the calories
and carbs on 18 ounces of juice or a candy
bar. When I was pregnant I didn't know
anything about nutrition and I gained 65
lbs. It has taken me over a year to get
my weight back down. In march my husband
and I are trying to have another child,
this time I will be alot smarter than with
my first. If you are trying to have a
baby get off the pill now. Some people
take a year to conceive after the pill and
sometimes it may take a month. It depends
on your body and if you have ever been
pregnant before. I am off the pill now,
however we use protection for a number of
reasons. I would like my period to become
regular (sometimes after you get off the
pill your cycle will change) and I would
like to get all the birth control out of
my system before I start trying, also we
aren't quite ready yet. Like I said we
want to start trying in march. Good luck
on getting pregnant and losing a few extra
pounds. Also remember when you breast
feed you tend to get down to your
prepregnancy weight quicker. I breast
feed for 2 months and it helped somewhat,
but my weight issue was because of the
excess weight gain and I am a housewife.
