Had this tooth pain off/on for a few
months. One day hurts like hell, next
day nothing. Now it's back again and
worse than ever. I have no insurance and
probably need a root canal. I have a
steady job though, if that counts for
anything. I have not been to the dentist
in years due to being terrified of "the
chair." I don't have a lot of money and I
realize dentists dont' work for free.
Any suggestions?

If it is in fact a nerve related issue
requiring a root canal treatment then you
will find that each time it flares up it
will be slightly worse than before.
Normally a root canal treatment is done in
stages over several visits.
What you could do is go to the dentist,
get the tooth opened up and medicated,
then with a temporary filling in place
extend the period between the first and
second visit to allow you to stock pile
additional funds.
Most dentists should be able to give you a
fairly accurate total cost for the root
treatment so you can work out the best
course of financial action.
