Im going to visit my fiance (hes in the
navy) for thanksgiving and im due to get
my period that week...Ive read and heard
things about delaying a period by skipping
the placebos and starting a new
pack...Will that work with any brand of
birth control (i take trinessa) and if so
what happens? Do you get your period the
next time you take placebos?

Skipping your period is ordinarily done
only with monophasic pills, so I don't
think you can do it with trinessa. If
you were to do it, you just skip your week
of inactive pills and start immediately on
your next pack of active pills. Usually,
you do this for 12 weeks and then take
your week of placebos, and that's when you
get your period. I don't know if it just
won't work with triphasic pills, or if it
can actually cause harm. Does anyone
else know?

I am on tricycline and my doctor told me
to do just that.
Take my pills but don't take the placebo
fills.....Just take another pack right
away. I am going on a trip south and
don't want my period during that.
I really wanted to do it another way and
that was take about 2 3/4 weeks of the
pills and stop them all earlier and hope
my period comes.
I asked this question on the board awhile
ago but nobody could tell me if they tried
this methiod and if it worked or not.

My boyfriend has been working out west for
months and he's coming home aruond
christmas, lucky me that's my time of the
month. But my pharmacist told me if you
just continue into a new pack and not take
the placebos you won't have your period.
Remember ladies, the birth control pill
stops ovulation, therefore the placebos
are just sugar pills.
The birth control pill was originally made
to never have a period, but women wanted
to have their period so they knew they
were or were not pregnant. The placebos
are only there if you want to have your
period. All they are, are sugar pills to
keep you in habit of taking them. He said
this method was not dangeous, but after 3
months you should take the placebos again.

Agreed this is the best way to do it, but
I really want my period, just a little
earlier than I probably would on these
pills....So I thought I would stop them a
few days sooner.
Does anyone know how quickly after your
last pill you typically get your period,
is it like 7 days later or what?
It's been many many years since I have
been on the pill so I forget all this. I
am only on the pill this month to
hopefully get my period earlier before my
trip south.

Skipping a Period Posted: 11-17-06 11:52am
I skipped the placebo pills and did not
get my period during the time I was hoping
not to. However, about a week later,
while I was on a new pack, my period came
and has not ended yet! I have been on
tri-nessa for several years, they are my
favorite type of birth control. However,
I will never attempt this again. I have
had cramps and a consistent period for 2
weeks, thus I would not recommend this!
My doctor had mentioned to me before that
there are only certain types of birth
control pills that you can skip the
placebo and not expect a period. I knew
that ortho-tri cyclen was not one of them
however, I took my chances. Hope this
helps!

Technically this is reccomended only for
monophasic pills, because very few women
will be able to skip on triphasic
regimins.
