Q: High Risk Trouble

I have another concern? When I found out I was pregnant it did not seem real, than I kept thinking something bad is going to happen to the baby. Last week I went to the doctor’s and found out that I am at risk. Can this be foreknowledge or just paranoia? Anyone else have this?

Probably Parania (dont Know How to Spell It)
Hey-
I felt the same way with both of my pregnancies. Actually both of my babies were premature and the youngest is disabled. Still, I say you are just feeling such a rush of emotions that are all new. I think it is normal to feel scared and think that something may go wrong. You are going to be a mother, and you dont want to go in "blind". If you dont mind, what makes you high risk? That is scary in itself. Well dont ever push your feelings aside. If you think that something is not right, than tell your doctor right away. Hope to hear from you soon! And good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am high risk for two reasons. The first. Back in 2001 I started taking the pill. I had taken birth control before and had problems (mainly I was way to emotional). Anyway, in 2001 my doctor put me on the lowest dose possible. One month later I developed a clot in my leg that broke off into my lungs. I had so many clots in my lungs the doctor was amazed I was alive, not to mention that I actually walked into the er! Well, here it is two years later and I am pregnant. During pregnancy your body will produce high levels of estrogen, more so than what is normally found in the pill. My doc is worried I may develop more clots. I have to see a doctor specializes in this area.
Second. When I had my last son, back in 1998, I never dilated to ten and he was coming out. My cervix tore. My doctor tried to sew it up, but I guess it never healed. I now run the risk of it opening up prematurely. Incompetent cervix they call it. This scares me, and now I wonder if those feelings I had of something bad happening were for real? What do think? I also read that if you suffer from incompetent cervix you should see your doctor every two weeks starting at 14 weeks. My doctor is waiting until I am 22 weeks.??????
Keep in touch,

I think that you should ask your doctor why you are not seeing him more often. If you feel you should than he needs to know. My doctor has been avoiding my questions and concerns also, I know it can be hard. Good luck. I will pray for you and your baby.

hi-
that is pretty scary. When you noticed the clot(s) in your leg, what did they look like? I am asking b/c I am on birth control, and recently I have had a lot of muscle pain in my legs, and have noticed a line of painless bruises along my veins. Since you have an incompetent cervix, has or will your doctor insert a surcloge into it so that it will stay closed until time for your baby to be born? Is this the same obstetrician that delivered your son? Are you sure that he is clear on everything that you have and feel? A mothers intuition plays a big part of keeping yourself and your child safe. Make sure to stae your thoughts and concerns to your doctor, and make sure he tells you exactly what you want to hear, and then follows thru immediately. If not, than you may want to get a second opinion. There is nothing wrong with wanting another doc.S advice. Make sure that when you leave each appointment, that you feel confident in knowing that you and your baby are safe, and that you both are being taken care of as you see fit. Good luck, and write back soon.

I never knew the clots were there (in my leg) until I had to go into the er. They told me to look for pain, swelling and heat on my leg (usually on calf). Your situation could be clots? Lie down and flex your toes, does your calf hurt? Is it warm to the touch there? You might want to see your doctor.
My doc will do a surgery to close the cervix if he sees it opening (i will see him every two weeks after I am 22 weeks).
Different doctor this time. I just moved thousands of miles from my hometown, which is why it took so long to see a doctor. I agree, a mother’s intuition is very important that is why I voiced my concerns, but he reassured me all was well. I just don’t believe him. I keep thinking he can’t stop mother nature!! Maybe I am paranoid!!! Do you have kids? Are you trying to get pregnant?
Thanks for the advice,
sam

sorry so short, I am in a hurry, but yes I have two children. My oldest is 2 1/2 and my youngest is 9 months. I also have a stepson who is 6. I am 20. My youngest is disabled, and I do beleive that it is due to medical malpractice. I will either post you a thread or pm you probably tomorrow to explain it all- if that is ok. I better go, my baby is wheezing pretty badly. Once again, good luck!
