Extreme Back Pain!! Posted: 11-12-05 02:19am
I have had this extreme back pain for 6
months now and its only gettin worse. I
have had mri's, cat scan, brain scan,
every type of scan practicly. I spent 2
days in the hospital, I was admited
because low blood count.
Nothing.....Since they cant figure out a
diagnosis they say its all in my head. It
is impossible to imagin this terrible
pain. Its gotten really bad the past 4
days I cant move I cant lay down I have to
sleep sitting, I cant do anything!! I am
15 years old for crying out loud! Im
watching my youth go by. I am getting
hopeless. Is this ever going to go away?
I cant fish I have to have someone cast
for me. I cant even drive because if I go
into spazms I might hit someone. I guess
I should tell u a little about it. It
first started when I was lifting
transmissions and muffelers and stuff.
After I was dun I had this scolding raw
throb in my lower right back. Then I
start to fall alot. My legs just give
out! It starts out as an ache the it
accelerates to this horrible throb that
stabs me every time I move or tense a
muscle. I am getting weak and I hate it.
I cant even go to school because I cant
walk for more than 10 min. Or lay down
for 10 min. I'm starting to feel really
crappy I just have my brother pull me on a
wagon down to my friends house to watch
them play football. I dont know why I do
it 2 myself. I took being healthy for
granted. I had plans I was going to
volenteer at my local animal shelter and
eventually become a vetranarian.
I bought a puppy before I went down. He
is the only fun I have. To watch him
chase his football or play with my brother
makes me smile. I need help something is
wrong with my back! Its impossible to
have this pain for no reason.
Ok lets summerize: low back pain, starts
as an ache then leads to a raw throb, any
while its in throb mode and I my back will
spazm and spazm till im begging for mercy.
My right side, my ear, jaw line, jaw,
side of my neck, shoulder to the tips of
my fingers will get waves of tingling. My
legs give out randomly putting me into
spazms. (this happend at the mall right
in front of everybody, I was spazaming so
hard I was flat on the ground pounding my
back trying to get the spazams to stop.
Screaming my moms name. People all around
me just starring at me. My mom was no
where to be found. I wanted to die
)
someone please help me I will take any
suggestions!
I dont want to hurt anymore! :(
thank you for your time.

Dear ryan,
i am so sorry that you are going through
such difficulties at such a young age. I
am a chiropractor and I hope to give you
some helpful advice.
I do not believe that this is all in your
head although I think depression and
mental issues can contribute to pain and
its intensity.
So, you mentioned this began after you
picked up some heavy objects, was the pain
only in your low back or did it radiate
into your legs also? Is the pain
continues or intermittent? Do you have
pain, numbness, tingling, and/or weakness
in one or both legs? You also mentioned
you are having symptoms all over your
body, is it pain, numbness, and or
tingling? Is there any neck pain? When
you say your legs give out, is it because
of pain or due to weakness?
When did you first have the mri and ct
scans done? Have you gone back to do
some more testing since the first ones?
When you say your legs give out, is it
because of pain or due to weakness?
From what you mentioned, there is a
definite nerve involvement but I do need
more info so try to answer the above
questions is possible.
I also suggest that you and your parents
do some research and find a competent
chiropractor, orthoped or neurosurgean to
get second and third opinions. Do not
despair, there has to be some explanation
to why you are having this pain. Please
keep us updated on how you are doing.

You also may want to ask your pediatrician
(you are 15 right?) for some comprehensive
bloodwork. You may have a hidden disorder
that can only be diagnosed through a
comprehensive blood analysis.
Fibro-myalgia can be a really hard illness
to diagnose and even more difficult to
treat.
You cannot allow people to convince you
that pain is in your head. I am also a
chronic pain sufferer and have recently
lost my job because of complications onset
by an unsuccessful back surgery. I
continue to be treated for chronicc pain
and there are more procedures in the
works.
The first place to start with this process
is in your doctorss office and then get
the referals necessary for you to see an
orthopedic surgeon or a rhumatoligist.
Don't give up! This too shall pass and
you will be better for it in the long
run.
