Pap Smear Result.... Scared Posted: 11-13-05 23:35pm
Im not really sure where I should post
this question so im sorry if its in the
wrong place...
But I had my first pap smear a few weeks
ago (i am 19) and this morning my docter
rang me to tell me there were some low
grade changes in my cells.... She said
she was in a hurry and couldnt really
explain it to me but she said it could be
because of a virus or something and to
have another pap smear in 6 months...?
:(
im so confused :( and scared.. Wat does
this mean? And this is my first pap smear
so how do they tell if the cells have
changed?
i dont wanna have to wait for 6 months
knowing something could be wrong...
Please help..
Thanks

Since the doctor was in a hurry i'm sure
it wasn't serious. They never call
briefly to tell you something huge. It's
probably just a small vaginal infection
easily curable :) no worries dear no
worries

It was prolly just a yeast infection or
something very minor. I would not worry
about it at all. Sometimes the test could
have been hard to read off the scope and
they want you to come back in. No biggie

Cervical smear results come as
abnormal
cin1
cin2
cin3
cancer
you have abnormal, which is fine because
it can rectify itself. Sometimes cervical
dysplasia can be caused by hpv (human
papaloma virus spelling might be off on
the middle word!) but not always.
Make an appointment to see your dr and get
them to explain it to you properly. If
they were concerned they would have sent
you to see the coloscopy clinic so try not
to worry too much. Even if it hasnt
resolved itself in 6 months it doesnt mean
its serious just means its stuborn!
They tell that the cells have changed by
putting the sample taken on a microscope
slide and setting it, it is then dyed and
looked at by a scientist to look for
abnormalities. The different stages have
a different appearance.
My mum had an abnormal smear years ago and
6 months later she had another and it was
fine. Try not to worry, if there was
something to worry about the drs woudl
have you in quickly

WOW, thanks for the update!
Sometimes abnormal smears are a FLUKE, or
they simply clear up on their own.

It is standar practice that if the cells
are abnormal a colposcopy is in order to
find out what is going on for sure.

Pap Smear Coming Back Abnormal Posted: 12-31-07 18:59pm
That happened to me too but my doctor
called and explained it to me and said I
should be seen by a GYN. He did another
Pap Smear and it again showed up with HPV
with the high risk types. He then did a
coloscopy and a biopsy. He said I need to
come back six months later for another
Pap.
What wonderful news that now three years
later, your tests come back normal. Great
News!
