Hello,
this is my first time posting anything.
I just turned 36 and have been trying to
conceive for 2 1/2 years. I have two
healthy children 5 and 2. I want a third
but have not had any luck. Nothing has
changed since my previous
pregnancies--weight, habits etc. I have
had a right oopharectomy 15 years ago, but
still conceived two children. The first
time it took me nine months, the second
time it took me 14 months. I have used
the clear plan easy fertility monitor for
two years and I am as regular as a
textbook. Ovulating every 26-28 days.
Normal periods. Having sex all times
throughout cycle but specifically around
ovulation. Husband had semen analysis
which was normal. I have had two hsg's
which showed an open fallopian tube.
I do have a septum in my uterus and other
than having breech, full term, c-section,
8 lb plus babies I do not think it is an
issue. I have had seven cycles of
clomid, once with estidiol. I currently
take glucophage, three 750 xr a day.
I recently saw a fertility specialist who
recommended I have a hysteroscopy to
remove the septum in my uterus, as well as
a laparoscopy to make sure my tube is open
and there is no scaring. I do not have
insurance to cover the treatment of
infertility and had planned on self-pay.
I had scheduled my hysteroscopy and
laparoscopy for tomorrow. The surgeons
fee was around $5000. I was all set to
go until I got a call from the scheduler
and she said the facility fee for 90
minutes of or time would be $14,000, not
including anesthesia!!!! I had planned
on $2000 at the most. Even with
discounts for self-pay cash they could
only lower the fee to $8600. I am
devastated. I had budgeted 20-30k for
the whole thing and now it would be close
to 20k just to have the surgery.
I am thinking I will tell the dr I want to
proceed with the iui without the surgery
since I have a two pregnancy history with
the septum. I don't know what else to
do.
Does anybody have any experience with a
septate uterus and iui success? Also,
has anyone had a hysteroscopy to remove a
septum? What were the costs? Did you
have insurance?

I had a laporoscopy hysteroscopy w/lysis
of the intrauterine septum in June 2007.
In my case the septum extended to my
cervix so it was pretty bad. They found
the problem when I miscarried on my first
pregnancy. I was lucky they found it so
quickly, but it's still been devastating
not to be able to have children till I
have this all fixed. The one surgery isn't
going to be enough and I'll be going
through it all over again in a few
months.
I am covered by 2 insurance companies so
we ended up not paying anything, though I
did see the bills. For the hospital, Dr.
and anaesthesia it was between $6-7,000,
so to see your costs so high is troubling.
Maybe things changed in the last couple of
years.
I hope things have worked out for you,
good luck with everything.
