My Story Posted: 11-22-05 01:02am
I found out I had hpv after getting a
second opinion about an abnormal pap test.
Apparently because my pap was low grade
they diagnosed me with hpv. I only find
this out when I went in for the second
opinion, the first Dr. Never bothered to
tell me this, just told me I would need a
colposcopy to rule out cervical cancer.
They did the colpo and I had cin 1,2 an 3
and I subsequently had a cryotherapy to
treat the cin. I have not had my 3 month
follow up pap test. Am crossing my
finger that the cin won't return
what first went thru my mind was medical
question, that stupid Dr. Never even told
me this, I had to ask the second dr "could
I have hpv" and then she told me I already
did.
Really, hpv is soooooooo prevelent these
days. Basicaly any girl who is sexual
active will have it at some point and most
of the time they may not even know about
it and it'll clear up on its own. So as
far as the stigma I really didn't give a
crap. I was more concered about the
potential risk for cervical cancer. But
only certain type of hpv put you at risk.
If you are concerned you may want to
request a test to see what type you
have.
As far as who gave it to me, I assume m
boyfriend of 3 years. Alhough he was
routinely std tested before we become a
couple they do not always test for hpv
unless you specifically request it. So I
could have gotten it from him or another
partner I suppose
i received cryotherpay (freezing of the
cells) for the abnormal cells on the
cervix. But I had no warts to take care.
So I suppose I properly took care of it.
Hope this helps. I know this all can
be a bit scary at first but I have come to
accept it as a part of being sexually
active in the 21st century. But I
suppose that's what happens when you
contract gential herpes the first time you
have protected sex with you long term
boyfriend who was previously std tested.

Just wanted to make for those who don't
know
there is no std test for hpv for men. The
test for hpv is only avaliable for women
through the pap smear. Men can only be
diagnosed with hpv if they carry the hpv
strands that cause the warts and that is
because the warts are visible. If the man
is carrier of the type of hpv that causes
the cervical displasyas the only way the
man can know is by word of their partner.
Like I have the hpv cervical type and now
my bf knows that he is officially a
carrier. I told him before we ever had
sex. The guy who gave me the hpv had no
clue he was a carrier. I knew he was the
one who gave it to me as he was my first.

Just My 2 Cents... Posted: 01-08-06 20:06pm
Was told I have hpv, high grade dysplaysia
late 2000, a couple months later, I had a
cold cone biopsy... No probs with the
biopsy except 2 humongous blood clots 2
weeks after.... Within 6 months I was
told I had another abnormal pap but they
wanted to just watch it and the next time
I had a pap (different doctor), they told
me it was normal, no probs... Anyway,
twice i've had a pap since the biopsy and
was told that I don't have much of a
cervix left, but the doc that examined me
when I had misscarriage a couple years
later, told me that my cervix or hpv had
nothing to do with it... Supposedly, you
can't say for sure where or whom you got
it from b/c they say you can have it for
years and not know it, but I know where I
got it from and I let him know it... I'm
not totally humiliated b/c I have a
sexually transmitted 'virus', but it was a
wake up call... I've met quite a few
other women that have hpv and different
stories and treatment and it's amazing
that as common as it is, it's never really
talked about... I didn't know there are
symtoms...

The first thing anyone should know about
hpv is that it is the most common sexually
transmitted disease/virus out there.
When I found out I had hpv, I had no
knowledge of it, and I was very upset and
ashamed. But I started researching hpv
and became less and less ashamed, even
comfortable with having it. The truth is,
in women between the ages of 15 and 40,
about 80% of them will have hpv at some
point in their lives. Unfortunately,
there is no way to tell if a guy has hpv,
and there are no symptoms or repurcussions
for a guy either.
I was 19 when I found out I had hpv. I
asked my nurse if there was any way to
tell who gave it to me. Since hpv can
remain dormant for years, there is no way
to find out exactly who gave it to you,
although i'm 99% sure I know who gave it
to me.
I went through 2 colposcopies and 2 rounds
of cryotherapy before I had a normal pap
smear. The colposcopy doesn't hurt; in
fact it really didn't feel like much of
anything. The cryotherapy was very
uncomfortable for me, like a really really
really bad menstral cramp. But other than
that, I had no side effects.
I recently had another pap smear, a year
and a half after my last cryotherapy. It
came back normal! The nurse said they
will keep an eye on it for 5 years, but I
should have normal pap smears from here on
out.
The one thing you should remember about
hpv is that nearly everyone has it! It's
nothing to be ashamed of and it's nothing
to be fearful of - unless you don't get it
treated. If you leave it untreated, you
may get cervical cancer. Just be sure to
get annual pap smears and you will be
fine.

I Found Out About 2 Years Ago Posted: 05-03-06 08:32am
I found out that I have hpv, about two
years ago. It's low grade. I've had
those coloscopys, and my doctor said there
was barely anything there. Cuz I seen
them do the procedure, and I didn't see
anything there. But I still have to go
back and get another one done. My paps
keep coming back abnoramal. I guess
there are different strands. Some cause
cancer, some don't. Thats what my gyno
told me

I found out last november that I had hpv.
It had been 2 yrs since I was to see my
gyno. I went in for a regular exam, only
to find out that I had hpv. I was really
upset, I knew that it was a virus that
came from sex, even though I am not one to
sleep around, I still felt dity. How did
this happen to me??? I did my research an
found out that it is a very common thing,
but that didnt make me feel much better.
I had the pinch biopsy done. Then my
doctor wanted to do a cone biopsy. After
that he told me it was cin iii with the
presents of carcinoma. He wanted to do a
hysterectomy asap. I didnt argue. I was
scared an just wanted this over. By march
of 2006 I had my hysterectomy. I had
some complications with that, but now I am
doin good.
I have had my share of hard times over the
yrs. An I had been in a 14 yr marriage
that I was not happy with. After all I
have dealt with over the yrs, and after
this I decided I was gonna be happy with
my life. I have since endded my marriage
an I reconnected with my high school
sweetheart. Next to my kids this man is
everything to me. He makes me so happy.
He tells me everyday how beautiful I am an
how much he loves me. I went from being
married to a man that made me feel like I
didnt exist, even when I was goin through
all this with the hpv an my surgery he was
not there for me. Now I have someone who
makes me feel like i'm on top of the
world.
How has this changed my life????? It made
me realize how fast your life can come
crashing down on you. It changed it for
the better I have to say.
