High Risk? Posted: 11-16-05 01:27am
I have posted before about my 5 months
pregnancy loss due to a rare umbilical
cord accident. I dont know if I would be
considered high rish or not next time I am
pregnant. I have genital herpes and am
overweight but other than that my last
pregnancy was healthy.
I know that high risk = more ultrasounds,
which is what I want next time for
reassurance. I dont know how long I
carried my dead baby around and it makes
me so mad. My obgyn said I couldnt have
my ultrasound until 20 weeks because I
only got one paid for by my health
insurance. I have anthem(blue access
ppo) which is pretty good.
I started bleeding a few days before my
ultrasound appt at my Dr.'s. My first
ultrasound ended up being at the hospital
when I found out my baby was dead.
Is anyone else high risk?? Are you
getting ultrasounds earlier than 20 weeks
or more than one? I really want to know
what to expect next time I get
pregnant-which could be soon I know we had
sex during ovulation this month, we are
desprately ttc again.
Help??

My friend is considered high risk for her
next pregnancy because with the one she
just had, she had her baby at 33 1/2
weeks. So she said that means more u/s
and something about meds I think but I
don't remember.... Good luck. Are u
pregnant again?

Im having a feeling I may be but I am not
sure yet until I miss my period....Even if
im not right now I think it will be soon
we are doing everything we can. I just
hope that my doctor can give me assurance
next time that things will be okay.

I was high risk in the begining causeof
previous miscarriages so I had u/s at
5,9,13,19 and 32 weeks. My hosp
automatically has them for everyone at
13,19 and 32 weeks but I got the extra 2
in the begining.

Hey lilypad
just thought I shed some light on
pregnancy with herpes, my good friend has
it and had her daughter last december, she
told me its okay to have child naturally
unless its active(herpes) then they have
to do c-section so their is no risk of
infection.
As for the rare if it is 1 in 10000 then
its pretty much you shouldnt have to worry
but inform your doctor so they can keep a
closer eye on you

yeah in my previous pregnancy I talked to
my docor about having herpes and they daid
they would put me on valtrex the last
month of pregnancy and test for an active
virus before labor. I could deliver
vaginally unless having an active outbreak
-then I would have to have a c-section.
Unfortunately that alone wasnt reason
enough to have any extra ultrasounds or
put me in the high rish category.

That sucks, usually when you have
miscarriage or something happens they
watch you closer second time around, some
ob-gyns have their head up their a$$.
Try looking for another ob-gyn cause its
not fair to you who doesnt want a healthy
baby and they should take into
consideration whats going on..........

Hi lilypad. I do not know if I will be
considered high risk but I had a
miscarriage on my first pregnancy so we
became more careful this second time. I
had several u/s before my 20th week.
And I think these u/s are critical and
important especially in monitoring the
early development of the fetus, that is if
it is developing correctly and normally.
My first u/s was on my first appmt (6th
week) and it was done every 4 weeks after
that. A special u/s was done on my 13th
and 20th wk to check for any possible
mental or physical defects of the fetus
that may lead to abnormality such as down
syndrome. It is sad to hear that some
drs or obs don't encourage u/s before 20th
wk just bec it is not covered by
insurance. I think they should give an
option and let the couple or mum decide if
they would like or not to have an u/s
regardless if it is covered by their
insurance. Goodluck.

Well I am probably going to take a hpt
today. Soon after I ovulated, I had a
small amount of blood tinged
dishcharge-maybe implantation bleeding-not
sure. And for 2 days now I have had off
and on period-like cramps but no
period,...Yet. I am due for my period
anytime now. I kind of feel like I might
be pregnant, but I am not getting my hopes
up too much, because I know my mind plays
tricks on me sometimes. I also have been
emotional lately, hypersensitive...And
having alot of heartburn. This could be
pms but I think there is a pretty good
chance im pregnant again.
So anyway if I am pregnant I am going to
try to find a doctor that can give me some
peace of mind, and that hopefully will
give me more than one u/s at 20 weeks.
Id like to know earlier on if the baby is
doing okay...
I will keep you all posted. Thanks so
much for all the support and concern from
everyone.
