Pregnant 3 Mo. After Wls Posted: 11-24-05 21:47pm
Hi there, it's okay, relax! I have been
in your situation. I had my wls on
10/25/02. I weighed 294 the a.M. Of my
gastric bypass. (laproscopic) I also got
pregnant 3 months after my wls and was
absolutely shocked!
I was done having kids! I was focusing
on me. I cried for days. I had to now
mentally go from "weight loss mode" into
"eating for 2 mode". How could i? I was
still trying to figure out how to eat for
myself with a tiny stomach! Trying to
figure out what to eat! Would I ever lose
all my weight? Would I gain weight?
Would my surgery be a waste of time and
money? Would my diabetes come back? (i
had gestational with my last two
pregnancies as well as type 2 which stayed
with me after my last delivery with my 6th
child). I was so upset. My surgery was
ruined. I just knew it.
My ob had never had a gastric bypass
patient before. Neither had my surgeon.
He pretty much did a post op check and
left me hanging. I never had another
appt. My pregnancy was my healthiest
pregnancy ever. I took my vitamins and
protein shakes faithfully, ate well but
never exercised. I've never been a fan of
physical torture! Haha! I lost weight my
entire pregnancy, my ob was concerned but
again, she had never had a wls patient and
could see that the baby was doing great as
was I so there was no real problem. This
was just part of the surgery doing what it
was supposed to do in the first year! I
delivered a healthy 8 lb. 10 oz. Baby
girl on 10/26/03. Exactly one year and
one day after my surgery.
I am now just over three years past my
surgery. I weighed in at 163 this a.M.
And am a healthy mom of 7 healthy kids. I
weigh less than my husband finally! My
diabetes has never returned. I am happy
with my weight although I know if I got my
butt to the gym I could tone up and lose
some of the last stubborn few pounds. I'd
love to get a lower body lift but with 5
boys and 2 girls, that's a lot of college
i'd rather pay for instead of getting rid
of this excess skin!
So, that's my story and I think if you
just take care of yourself and follow your
ob and your surgeons guidelines, that your
pregnancy can be a success. Just make
healthy food choices. The eating and
drinking patterns your make in the first 6
months are the ones that will stick with
you in the long run so make them count!
This is the honeymoon period and I know I
felt like my pregnancy ruined my master
weight loss plan but in reality, it just
changed it a bit and I had to make a new
plan work for me! Feel free to email me
because I totally know what you are going
through. By the way, I will be 38 next
week! Oh, and my daughter, is a totally,
healthy vibrant 2 year old. Absolutely no
problems and is of normal weight and
height etc. (7aliens@swbell.Net)
p.S. Got my tubes tied after delivery!

You might think of talking to a
nutritionalist they may be able to offer
you some good advise.
Good luck to you!

Not Worried Posted: 11-25-05 12:36pm
Thanks for the replies.
I am not worried about gaining weight at
all, I never thought I could have children
so this is a great shock for me and my
husband. My first baby..
I am worried about nutrition. I went to
the obgyn and they have never had a
patient with gastric bypass surgery ..They
told me to stop losing weight ( I guess
they don't understand)
my sugar levels in the morning and during
the day are great below 100...But every
now and then when I feel sick, it goes up
to 180.
So scary. I dont want those levels to
rise.
I take all my vitamins (vitamins I take
is especially for diabetics called alpha
betic) and shakes too.
I had an ultrasound done on the 21st and
it showed that I was 5 weeks and 3 days
pregnant ...Hehehehe i'm still so
shocked...
I weighed 230 the am of my surgery I had
open surgery huge scar and so far I have
lost over 50 pounds...
Wow your diabetes never returned? My doc
did a test and told me I am glucose
intolerant now....Whatever that means
i feel better knowing that someone else
has gone through this too trying not to
worry about the baby can't help it ...
Have a great weekend everyone

wonderful
i am 43 years old, I have .C.A.D, I have
diabeties, high blood pressure. I have
no uterus and I am 22 weeks pregnant with
twins(i think it's twin) no u/s to confirm
it yet. The babys making hormone for my
"older body"--has lower my blood pressure
and lowered my blood sugars. My heart
is holding up fine. I have only had
heart pains like 3 times since july--i was
still taking nitro once in a while for it.
Dont worry it is a gift from .God.
He will see you thru it. Worry is not
good for the baby. How many kids do you
have, did you survive miscarriages??
Just curious. God is good, all the
time. Bless you and you family this
holiday season. May his light shine
down on you all.

I am about 22 weeks pregnant and i'm
having a boy ! I was surprised as I had
picked out a girls name but not a boy's
...Still happy though.
I am still taking my protien shakes but
not my vitamins as my protien shakes have
all the necessary vitamins am thinking of
taking extra vitamins though as i'm
finding myself very tired lately.
I have lost over 50 pounds even with the
pregnancy.
My doctor was so upset but controlled
himself when he found out I was pregnant,
but this is a dream come true for me, more
so than ever losing weight. I have allot
of excess skin ewwwwwwww but i'm going to
wait at least 2-3 years before doing any
surgery.
Every now and then my sugar levels spike
but i've had many ultra sounds and the
baby's weight is right on target and
everything looks great.
I still can't believe i'm having a baby at
40 ! And my first one too ...
Everynow and then I get worried and it's
hard trying to get 8 glasses of water a
day ...But I havent swelled up anywhere
and all else is fine..
