Q: 7 Weeks Pregnant With a Massive Toothace, Help Needed

I have a massive sore toothache that my dentist says needs to be pulled. The only thing that helps is tylenol. I am taking probally more than I should. The dentist wants me to wait until jan to have it pulled if possible, but to come back if the pain is too much.

I am barely sleepign anymore, constantly in agony.

What are the dangers if I get it pulled vs living with the pain until jan 18, date of it getting pulled.

Thanks from a scared mom to be

You can actually take pain meds during and after a procedure if is hurting you that bad, remeber mother comes first till baby is born. The only thing they recommend is you try to avoid narcotics, but usually after having a tooth pulled its not that bad you can just take a tylenol whenever you start to feel sensitive ( I had wisdom teeth removed.)

It depends on the sererity of the situation..If you have to undergo dental surgery, they typically put you to sleep during, but they cant do that if you are pregnant.

I wish I could help more but im not sure...

They shouldnt put you to sleep to have teeth removed, they will more than likely give you some happy gas(entonox) and freeze you and after its done you will just need to relax. Wish you luck make sure you ask questions, I know where we go they take your bp when prego and wont work on you if it is too high.

Thanks everyone. I am just taking tylenol right now to ease the pain. I might see my dr on tuesday and ask if its safe to have it taken out. My dentist said that he would put alot of freezing into my mouth to ease the pain, during the second trimester.

If its fine to take tyelnol every four hours, I can probally survive on that, somehow.

But I would like it taken out, it hurts so much.

Unless it is an emergency dental procedures (other then your basic cleaning) shouldn't be done untill after 24 weeks, because it can affect the baby (such as putting you to sleep or the needle that numbs you) as for pain medicine nothing is reccomended while you are pregnant other then tylonal, doctors say that they'll have no affect on the baby (when taken in safe doses) but I try not to take anything unless I have to. Good luck.

I can tell you from experience as far as medicines go, you can actually take some of the lower dosage narcotic pain meds.

It is not necessary for you to suffer in pain because you are pregnant. You can go to the dentist and get that tooth pulled and also take vicodan or t3 or if it is bad enough percocet to help with pain. Taking too much tylenol is far worse for the baby than taking a low dose narotic pain reliever.

You need to get a referal from your ob to a dentist that he/she works with. Ob docs normally have a list of specialists that they reommend because they spcialize is working with ob paitents.

If a medical professonal refuses to work on you because you are pregnant, you need to find another because they are telling you they ar not compotenet in emergency medicine that may be necessary from the procedure you are having. Regardless of your satus, if a doc cannot help you in an emergency then you need to go to one that is compotent not only in their chosen field (i.E. Dentristy) but also in emergency resecitation if you pass out or go into shock.

Hope this helps,
-brian

What time of affects can the needle have on the baby?

The tooth is so bad now, that tylenol is no longer working and I just want it fixed asap.

baby tylenol in the tooth. The concentrated kind. Small bottle. Dentist told my friend while she was preg. But like others have said I believe they can pull it while preg, usually a toothe aches from the infection(abcess) of a rotton tooth. With anti-biotics the pains leave.

I say.... Talk to your doctor and then speak to your dentist! You have enough to worry about during pregnancy without having to deal with tooth pain...(which I know really hurts)

Well, the doctor has given me t3 to help me sleep at night and an antibotic until I go and see my baby doctor. He sees nothing wrong with getting the tooth pulled but feels I might benifit by waiting and talking to the baby doctor. I go there next wendesday. Thanks so much for all your help, I really appreciate it.

Hi There
Hi, I read your message here and I had the same problem myself when I was 2 months pregnant with my daughter, I had a massive excrusiating absessed tooth, all I did was go to the dentist, they did exrays and gave me a novicane shot and he opened the tooth and they sucked out all the poison that was in the tooth, and he gave me antibiotics that wouldnt hurt the baby, and I came back and he pulled the tooth, I was so relieved that it was gone, they can also do a root canal if the tooth is not rotten, you just need to get a second oppion , their is some quacks out there, ive never heard of a dentist that would not do anything for you because your pregnant, he probably didnt want to work on you because of that reason. They have ex-ray vests for you to wear during your ex-rays. But you need to tell them your pregant, but sometime they will ask you if you are or trying to get pregnant. Good luck to you . Theirs no need to suffer with the tooth. God bless you from hotty. Oh and happy thanksgiving to you.

Well, I had the tooth pulled today. It was horrible. He used a type of freezing that has been know not to have any adverse affects on the baby.

It was so decayed it came out in pieces but is finally gone.

Thanks everyone

That is great news! I am thrilled to know that you are feeling better now and also knowing that you are armed with information that many consider to be taboo when it comes to a pregnant woman needing medical treatment.

I would have a fit if a doctor decided not to work with my wife because she was prego.

Keep us updated as to your progress.

I just had one of my wisdom teeth pulled. It was impacted and after having a constant headache for 3 days I went to my ob who sent me to a dental surgeon. All he did was give me 3 shots of novacaine and pulled out the tooth. He gave me a 5 day persc for tylenol3 which is a strong tylenol and I havent had a headache since. This was 9 days ago and I am 18 weeks pregnant. I would def. Go and get it pulled it was instant relief for me. And I know how hard it is to function when you have constant pain specially at work! Hope you feel better!

I Had An Abcest
I had an absest since march 2005, and got pregnant in july. The abcest seemed to flair up and I went to the dentist for it. He said that I had to have surgery on it since antibiotics did not help. I went for an evaluation, and the dentist told me that I had to be at least 3 months pregnant, because if the surgery caused more infection that it could be trasferred to my baby. Well, one day before my 3rd month I had the surgery. I was in agony, along with morning sickness still....However, just the other day, I found that the abcest is back...Yipee...I really don't know what to do now...I do not want to have surgery again...

Have you thought about seeing an alternative medicine person. I have trigeminal neuralgia in my face (the dentist told me it was an abcest and the second one told me it was cos a grind my teeth)...Anyways... It's meant to be more painful than giving birth - i'll let you know in 5 months! Lol

i went to my doctor and he was going to give me drugs that could cause all kinds of problems for my baby...So I went to see a homeopath. She has given me drops to have when I feel the pain coming on...One set of drops is for the pain - the other is to deal with why my body is having the pain...If that makes sense.

I have found this to be the best way...And believe me...I'm not into all that airy fairy stuff...But I will try anything once...And this has worked for me.

Good luck!
Xx
