Establishing Cause of Death - Heart Attack??? Posted: 11-20-05 08:40am
Hi folks,
wondering if someone can help...
I'm doing some research and was wondering
if it's possible for an md or coroner to
establish that someone has died from a
heart attack on simply viewing the
corpse???
Or, will definitive tests be required???
Many, many thanks,
juebec

No. One cannot establish ause of death
by looking at a corpse. That is why we
do autopsies. They must view the heart
in order to see the damage that occured.
I hope that sets your mind at ease.

Good stuff.
Now, does anyone know how long it would
take for an autopsy to discover that a
heart attack has taken place???
Thanks again...

Honestly, an autopsy might take a few
days, depending on how bad off the corpse
is and when the me writes the final
report. But all the me has to do is take
out the heart and look at it and its
surrounding area to discover whether or
not it was a heart attack. Its a pretty
tall tale sign.
