Just ask a pharmacist before you buy a medication, alot of medications havent been tested on pregnant ppl and that why they tell us not to take them but sometimes you have no choice just make sure to get dr ok

See up here I was told regular tylenol was fine but the other kinds of tylenol were a no-no. I was allowed to take benedryl dm for cough. That's it. We got a list of don'ts at my first pre-natal visit. For food, meds, activities, etc...

According to the list that my wife's ob doc puts out of approved medicines for pregnant women:

1st trimester safe:

1.) tylenol, xtra strength tylenol ( head-ache pain, fever reducer)
2.) robitussin, robitussin dm, benedryl (cough medicine)
3.) ocean spray and afrin nasal spray (sinus congestion)
a.) benedryl (sinus congestion/allergy relief)
b.) sudafed (after the first tri-mester only)
4.) tums, rolaids, mylanta, maalox, pepcid, and zantac. (heartburn)

these meds are safe for use along with many others for nausea, constipation, diarreah and sore thoat. Please let me know if you want the other pars of this list. I would be happy to post the rest of it.

There are also several narcotic pain meds tat are generally safe for use durring pregnancy. Tylenol #3 or #4, vicodan/lortab, and percocet/tylox.

Those meds should only be used when prescribed by your ob doctor.

no the fillers are not different in canada or in europe. Medicne is medicine when it comes to lortab or percocet or tylenol.

Many times the standard school of thought is to avoid all medicine for fear that "something" might happen to the baby.

In todays medical world, there are thousands of studies done as to how the use of certian medicines affect the health of the baby as well as the health of the mother. Most of the studies indicate that in moderation, under the supervision of your ob/gyn, you can take prescription medicine and everything will be fine and mom doesnt have to suffer for no justifiable cause.

It is no different (in my opinion) when certian ranks of birthing mid-wives or other groups like that, that make mothers feel like criminals for having an epidural or asking for other pain meds suddding labor and delivery. It is horrible to make someone feel bad for taking full advantage of todays modern medicine. It is much more healthy for mom and baby to be pain free and clear headed when baby is born so that mom can concentrate on feeding the little guy/gal and also concentrate on caring for herself instead of writhing in pain and beingg miserable.

I was in the delivery room for all 12 hours with my wife and I could not image her being forced to be in awful pain on top of the natural pain from pushing and tearing of the birth canal.

Again, imo if your doctor refuses to treat your pain, find a new doc. Compassion is the nake of the game and leaving someone in pain for no reason is not compassion, it is ignorance to well accepted practices of modern ob/gyn clinics.

The other medicines on the list from our ob is as follows:

sore throat: chloraseptic spray or lozenges

constipation: colace, surfak, milk of magnesia, senakot, metamucil, citracel, and fibercon

nausea: emetrol, fenergan (supositories) the doc recommended supositories because my wife was throwing up everything she ate so he was worried that the medicine would just be thrown up after she took it.

There are also some dental procedures included on the sheet from the doc:
approved dental work: xrays: use shielding and delay until after 13 weeks of pregnancy.

Anesthetic: lidocaine, xylocaine (without epinephrine)
pain relief: tylenol 3 or 4, vicodan/lortab, percocet/tylox
antibiotics: penacillin, ampicillin, keflex, and erythromycin

i hope this helps with any concerns. Mom doesnt have to suffer any more. :)
