Low Dose Pills to Regulate Irregular Periods Posted: 11-22-05 00:35am
Hi, wondering if anyone knows, do low or
ultra low dose pills like alesse and ortho
lo go as good a job of regulating periods?
Has anyone with irregular periods taken
one of these ultra low dose pills and had
problems with their period. I've taken
yasmin, which is considered low and it did
just as good a job of regulating me as
ortho tricyclen or ortho evra. Just
wondering if a lowe dose pill will
alleviate some of the side effects i've
experiences but will still be as effective
in regulating my periods. Also, i've haf
high blood npressure the last half dozen
times i've gone to the dr and say it could
be from bc...I was on ortho evra. Could
switching to a lower dose help with the
blood pressure. Has anyone else
experienced this, i'm only 24?

Well, low dose pills tend not to be as
good at controlling periods, there tends
to be a higher incidence of spotting and
irregularity. However, I have been
talking ortho-lo for a year now and have
had few problems.
I missed a pill once and it made me spot a
lot, however. You have to be very
careful to take your pill on time every
day or spotting can and will occur.
As for the side effects, lo-dose pills are
excellent for getting rid of bad side
effects of birth control. I was very
depressed while on orthotricyclen, but
since I switched to ortho-lo I have had no
problems. Switching to a lower dose could
very well help with your blood pressure
problems.
As a side note, ortho evra is known for
its bad side effects. Switching to a
low-dose pill would most likely help those
side effects.
Hope this helps.

Hi bonnie,
thanks for the repsonse, and the link,
although it didnt work i'm guessing had to
do with the risks of the ortho evra patch.
I am well aware of the risks of ortho
evra which is why I decided to switch to
something else. I'm hoping that my blood
pressure will return to normal now that I
won't have so much hormones coursing
through my bloodstream. What a shame
that the pharmaceutical companies care
more about making money then people's
lives!! I have switched to microgestin
aka loestrin which is a lower dose pill
similar to allesse. My np said it should
still do a good job of regulating my
periods and that I may have less side
effects. We'll see I just started
yesterday and I did have the awefull nasea
this morning that I always get when I
start a new birth control. I'm hoping
that will go away, if not i'l try
something else.
