My Baby Needs Her Kidney Removed - Need to Get Educated Posted: 11-25-05 13:30pm
     I have
just returned from great ormond street
hospital with my 15 week old daughter and
am in a state of total shock. What we all
thought was a mild kidney complaint which
would go away by itself has turned out to
be a blockage in the tube draining the
kidney. The backflow of urine back into
the kidney has basically destroyed it and
we are now on the waiting list for her to
have the 'dead' kidney removed.
I know nothing about this condition and
the implications of living with one
kidney. I know it happens as people are
able to donate kidneys and still live
normal lives and I also heard that many
people live their whole life unaware that
they have only one kidney. But i'm so
scared and wanted to hear from other
people who have had kidneys removed so I
can get educated and get some support.
I'd love to hear from anyone as at the
moment I feel confused, frightened and
very aloneand desperately trying to hold
it together for the sake of my baby.

I never did have my kidney removed, but I
too as a 7 year old child was on the
waiting list for kidneys. They told me
if I did make it to childbearing age, I
would def. Need new kidneys after child
birth. I have never again had trouble
with them. I get some pains, and I know
to force fluids, and I spill protein(white
blood cells, albumin) all the time. But
they just keep on going. I am now 43
years old and still doing fine.
I know many pple live with only one and
never know the difference. Maybe they
could just give her time, the kidney might
get better, if they can stop the
blockage.
I am so sorry to hear about this and I
will be praying. Get your church
praying, or momma's church--you know what
I mean? .God bless your little
baby--hope we hear good news about her
soon.
And always try to get a second opinion
when faced with something so life
changing!! Just my opinion.
