My friend had her baby in july and I went
with her through her whole pregnany..So I
kinda got to know her doctor. So when I
came up pregnant I started going to him
to. The question I have is..They induced
her at 37 weeks because her blood pressure
was high...Well my blood pressure was high
this last Dr. Visit I had. And now im
kinda scared that they are gonna induce
me. Is it more painful or anything when
being induced?
Thanks! Christy!

I was induced for that reason and I had
natural labor and it didn't seem to hurt
more or less than it should.

I am not able to tell you from personal
experience because I am a man but it seems
like the contractions were a bit stronger
when being given the patocin.
After the nurses had gotten my wife up to
about 30 ml/hr from 3 ml/hr, she was in
pain and needed to have the epidural.
Regardless of procedure, nature telling
you it is time or medical science telling
you it is time, you are going to be in
lots of pain.
Imho you should really consider having the
epidural! There is no logical reason for
you to suffer in pain. Its not 1805 or
1905 but 2005 and medicine has progressed
by leaps and bounds and having some
medicine to help you deal with pain is not
a crime unlike what many of the child
birth classes would like you to believe.
(that was my rant..... :) )
good luck,
-brian

When I was induced, they first gave me
cytotec, nothing happened, then pitocin,
still nothing happened, then the dr broke
my waters I went into a strong labor that
was still not unbearable and about 30-45
minutes later I had to push...2 pushes
later baby was born. The baby actually
coming out hurt bad for just a few
seconds, but the rest wasn't nearly as
unbearable as I expected it to be. It
was very easy to push. My sister in law
has done it both ways (natural vs
epidural) and she says it is much harder
to push with the epidural than it is
normally therefore that made it a longer
process. But I don't know firsthand on
that b/c I have only had natural birth.
I plan to continue having natural birth
with all of my pregnancies b/c it went
well for me. Hope this helps.

I got to 5 cm with my first son, and then
given pitocin. I was in labor for 36
1/2 hours before he came. Seemed just
what it was.
With both my daughter and my youngest son,
I was induced, from the beginning. My
daughter took 26 hours, and my son was
c/section cuz he went into fetal distress
with the pitocin.
I felt like it hurt more with my daughter,
possibly psycological. Cuz I knew they
were gonna make me hurt. I had her
completely natural though--and I loved it.
Wanted to have my last son the same
way.
My first son they gave me an injection
for pain, I was too groggy by time baby
came, and the pain meds had worn off.
I don't believe in epidural.

Being induced is nothing. My water broke
while I was at home but my contractions
weren't regular, they put me on pitocin to
help and I did get to 10 cm after hours
and hours but trey's head was in the wrong
position for me to push and I had a c-sec.
I think more and more people are being
induced. As long as baby is healthy
there is no reason to be afraid of
induction.
