Should He Quit Smoking Too?? Posted: 11-27-05 04:43am
Im not pregnant now, but when I was my
hubby wouldnt quit smoking with me and it
was really hard for me! I quit mostly
but snuck one once in a while....
We lost our lst baby...And we are ttc
again. I started smoking again the night
I had to stay at the hospital when I was
told my baby was dead inside me and I
still had to be induced into labor....I
was 5 months...Terrible experience...
So currently I am smoking-we both are. I
know its bad, and is bad for fertility
too, but when we get pregnant again I will
quit. He promised he would too, but I
dont know if he really will....I need his
support....
Any advice anyone??

I'm so sorry to hear about you losing your
baby. =( I couldn't even imagine how
horrible that was. =( I hope things turn
out great the second time around!
I smoke too so I know how hard it is to
quit! I've tried quitting.. But my bf
and I live together and he smokes as well,
making it very hard. Because when you're
quitting.. And you smell someone
smoking.. It smells soooo good. Haha.
He definitely should quit too as soon as
you find out you're pregnant. Second hand
smoke is even worse than smoking yourself.
That and it's way too hard to quit when
someone you're constantly around lights
one up in front of you.
You both could try quitting before you get
pregnant. They have those patches, little
stick things that you smoke like a
cigarette, and some kind of pills you can
buy. That way you know for sure he's
going to quit, since you both would be
done with it already.
Or you can try what i'm doing. I've been
packing my own cigarettes. Buy the loose
tobacco, filter tubes, and the packer.
When you make your own, you don't want to
smoke nearly as much. I use to smoke over
a pack a day and i'm now down to less than
a pack. Too much work for me to smoke.
Lol. Plus they actually have less
nicotine in them, which is always good.
I'd just try to talk to him first and
voice your concerns to him to see what he
says. I know it's hard to quit smoking
when you don't want to quit, but i'm sure
he wants a baby just as bad as you do. It
does have its benefits though. Possibly a
longer life. =)
.Good luck in whatever you both decide and
come to agree on. =)

Thanks for replying so quickly...I am glad
to hear from someone who knows where im
coming from with the smoking...
Actually I hate the fact that I smoke...I
hate to smell like them and both sides of
my family has died from cancer...Im not
invincable...It can happen to me too.
For me, I feel like I want to quit but I
am so addicted right now. And I am still
mourning the loss of my baby...So ive been
sad...And its so hard to quit...
Thia addiction is so powerful...I am
smoking even moe than I used to...I used
to smoke 1/2 a pack a day and now I am
smoking like a pack a day...
I hope I can find the strength to quit
soon...

We both smoked when I got pregnant and
when I found out I was preggy, I tried
quitting and hubby had to smoke outside.
I cut down my smoking a lot..From a pack a
day to under 5 a day then 2 a day then by
month 6 I quit. Hubby still smoked
outside. My son is huge and extremelly
healthy and as soon as I stopped
breastfeeding I started smoking again (i
had bad postpartum depression and it was
my vice!!) we do not smoke in the house
and my hands are super dry from washing
them everytime I go out for a smoke. It
is really hard to quit but tell hubby if
he isn't gonna quit with you then to do it
outside. We both smoke a lot less as it
is incredibly cold up here now and none of
us wanna go out-lol.

Hey lilypad,
I agree with jess better to smoke
outside, its a good habit to maintain so
when you have your child you dont smoke
around them or let them see you smoking.
Hubby quit after we found out and has
been bugging me to quit I have tried twice
but I keep giving into cravings so I for
one know its not easy.
I got postpartum and I got it when I got
prego with number two (elisa was only 8
months) I didnt know I had it but the
hormoned from #2 set me off and as jess
said it was a vice. I was really
embarrased about postpartum and finally
went to seek help but they wouldnt give me
any medication said my only option was to
stay in hospital. I have a daughter and
I dont have money for daycare if im not
working so it was not an option but hubby
was upset because I was crying almost
every day.
Now everything is fine but im still
smoking when I quit on the second time I
ended up finding out I had complications
that would keep me on bedrest and being at
home all day got really boring cause I
usually work 8-12 hours. I started back
up and have been cutting down but im still
smoking stress is a factor but I cant do
yoga or any kind of strenous work/anything
that would help my mind not think of
smoking so I completly understand your
dilema.
Take care and I pray baby dust flies your
way
