Pcr-dna Test Can It Be Accruate After 15 Days? Posted: 11-29-05 19:47pm
Hello all
i am a guy filled with guilt and feeling
very poorly physically, now 23 days after
my very stupid activity with a call girl,
breif unprotected oral and then protected
intercorse.
I took the pca dna test 15 days after the
possible exposure, many sites say that
this test can be accruate from 72 hours to
2 weeks after the exposure and the results
were negative but I still have a lot of
muscle pain, discomfort in all lymphnode
areas and a lot of pain fro testicles
shooting down my legs and a temp now 99.5
- 100 daily>
i know everyone told me that I was at no
risk,
does anyone know if the pcr-dna test is as
accruate as they say, this site even said
that it can be used in the 72hrs to 2 week
window?
I am not trying to burden anyone and I
greatly appreciate all who have taken the
time to offer me help.
Thanks

I take it from your question you are
asking when those tests should be
obtained. A dna pcr will become positive
by 2-4 weeks after exposure. A test one
month or after exposure can be definitive.
An elisa test is usually positive within
4-12 weeks after exposure/infection.

I read several articles claiming that they
were accurate for most people within 48-72
hours and 95% of people within 2 weeks and
99% after 4.
I was negative on the 15 test but symptoms
continue so in was looking for anyone else
who may be aware of the accuracy versus
the different times (days after
exposure).
Thank you

One thing that you must understand about
the pcr dna and elisa, is that in pcr dna
, you check the viral load and in elisa,
you check the presence of antibodies.
So, the subjective issue of time and
presence of virus in the blood could
slightly vary in infected individuals.
Because, viral load goes to a very high
limit, only when the body is not able to
produce enough antibodies. This happens
mostly, when people recognise specific
symptoms related to hiv and an early
progression towards aids. Otherwise, the
viral load may not show up in highly
serious quantities.
So, pcr dna test is always the 2nd choice
for testing once the elisa shows up
positive.
I would rather advice you to leave your
worry and wait for your window period to
complete and go for a elisa and repeat the
elisa after a 2-3 month gap.
Dont take your worries to a disease.
Symptoms are never a positive approach to
decide if you are infected or not.
