Had a Scare Last Night ( Thyroid?) Need Some Feedback*** Posted: 11-30-05 18:00pm
Hello, I had a real scare last night and
thought I would post on this forum and see
if anyone has had a similiar situation or
perhaps knows what may have caused this.
I would greatly appreciate anyones
feedback!!
I have always had thyroid trouble, first
when I was a teenager and I had
hyperthyroidism then I beleive I outgrew
it or something and didnt have any trouble
until I was 23 and at 24 I had a baby.
Now I was hypothyroid.I continued to have
problems since. I had another child when
I was almost 30 years old and of course
still on medication and hypo. A few
years laters I was told I had hashimotos.
Ever since I have never felt like any
medication works, I always have every one
of the symptoms no matter what kind or how
much medication I am prescribed. I
basically thought this is as good as it
gets and have lived with it. About 4
years ago - out of the blue I began to
have these "attacks" so-to-speak where
they would start with a pain in the
diaphram area right between my rib cages -
the pain would quickly grow to be quite
intense and at times so bad I would feel
like I was going to pass out. During this
time I would begin to sweat and I mean
sweat horribly - it just drips off me and
makes a bug puddle and I get so very hot.
After some time it subsides and the
sweating stops, the pain leaves and I
begin to get very very cold, ice cold and
also very tired ( must go to sleep). I
had these for about 10 months and went to
every e/r we have as well as to several
different kinds of doctors to find out
what it was. I had a lot of tests but
nothing appeared to be wrong. They could
not say what it was and could never find
anything. One of the problems is by the
time I arrived the attack was gone so I
camped out in the hospital waiting for an
attack to occur and of course any time you
do this - you are not going to have one.
Then all of a sudden these went away for
about a year and half or two years. Then
about 6 months ago they came back except
the only difference was I did not have the
pain as I had before. I had no pain.- the
last few weeks the pain has come back
except its not nearly as bad as it was
before. Its also a different kind of pain
( hard to explain.) I am not sure if this
pain has any value to it but thought its
best to mention it. Anyways last night I
had another one except this one I couldnt
seem to ride out as I have in the past.
It was very bad and I did not feel well at
all. I also became scared so my daughter
got the neighbor. He came with a
thermometer and blood pressure cuff. He
took my temp. With one of those you run
along the side of your face and my temp
was 92.3. When he arrived the attack had
passed and I was lying down and starting
to feel very cold. He could not get the
bp to register. Once , about 3 years ago
when having this - I had experienced a bad
one again and the fire dept. Was called.
They, too had trouble with my bp as well
as my heart rate which they said was very
difficult to hear and the beats were not
enough at all. My neighbor had me drink
some salt water and take a few bites of
bread with peanut butter. He also ran the
blowdryer to warm me up. My temp. Began
to increase and finally my bp registered
at 93/65. I felt much better and fell
asleep. My son says that I have no
thermostat and said he has always thought
this for many years as I am always cold to
the touch especially my hands. Can
anyone help me! Please. Thank you
kindly, kimberly

Keep track of how long what you are eating
and doing during each of these occurences
it might help having a log for the doctors
I get a tightness in my chest it stays
around the heart and center of chest I had
a stress test done and passed with flying
colors ekg had a few t's which concerned
the doctor my bp is low 98/66 and I have
had raynauds for years just diagnosed with
hashimotos and I can sweat like someone
turned a faucet on under my arms in 15
degree weather so it might be the
hashimotos I think there is more to this
than what the health officials are
stating. I have every symptom so good
luck try to stay well and keep track I
believe the more we keep track of this the
better understanding the doctors will have
because we are living with this roller
coaster ride of the good bad and down
right ugly days
