Q: Antibiotics/stress Causing Late Period?

I really ought to be more educated on this sort of issue, but I am extremely paranoid. I am about 3 days late on my period, and I am regularly fairly regular. However, I feel that i've been pretty careful this month. The few times that I did have sex right after my last period had ended were all using a condom, and he withdrew before he finished, or did not finish at all. I don't think there were any accidents to the best of my knowledge. About halfway into the month, I developed a uti for the first time and took bactrim and another prescription for the pain for 3 or 4 days. After the uti symptoms went away, we had sex once with a condom and he did not finish. This one other incident did happen, however, when he finished on my upper front side. In the bathroom, I wiped myself off to where I felt it was all off. I think I was really tired however, and I seem to remember wiping myself once more (though at this point, there wasn't anything visibly on the paper, but i'm not sure if there may have been some that was not detectable?) and folded the paper over and wiped myself after I had been using the bathroom. What are the chances that this got me into trouble? There really shouldn't have been any contact at all, in theory, but I don't know if maybe there was an accident? Again, there really wasn't anything left on my front side that last time I wiped, but i'm not sure if the tiny amount that may have been there could have caused problems?

I am normally a pretty careful person, but I can't help but question what is going on with my late period. I'm not sure of exactly how probable it is that I am pregnant. I have been very stressed lately, but I really am stressed most of the time anyway! Also, does anyone know if an antibiotic such as bactrim can interfere with periods?

Thanks so much for the help, you guys. Any feedback would be appreciated...I am really worried.

Well my period is late too, and I don't remember having sex since my last period which was a month and a half ago. BUT, I do remember getting sick and my doctor giving me BACTRIM! So your post has given me a feeling that things will be okay for me. Maybe it's the Bactrim. I heard that antibiotics can delay your period, and I'm guessing bactrim is one of them. I recommend you get a pregnancy test like I will be doing tomorrow, just in case. The sooner, the better.

Many girls have asked the same question, you can find it on many sites, and the answers were mostly that antibiotics can not affect the period. But many girls ask the sam questin over and over again, makes you wonder... At least it should!! Usually you will find that they say that antibiotics do have an effect on the BCP, but I do think that antibiotics affect the period and entire MC even if you are not on the BCpill. There is no scientific reserch for that, and the doctors will always say it's more likley that the ilnes and stress caused the period problems. But I found a litlle sientific researc about the affect of the antiobitic on the period. And the conclusion would be-the antibiotics(penecilin) we get today in pills or other forms is not pure, that could be the main couse of the problem. Because when they gave pure penecilin to women they did not have any problem, or irregularities. But when they gave them antibiotics we mostly use - more than 90 procent of women had some kind of irregularities in their periods. I my self have the same problem, i took antibiotics two weeks ago, and this month my period is late first time in my life, there is no posibility that I am pregnant.

This post is just for the girls who will look up the net for the same problem as I did. Because we all do have mostly problems with our periods when we take antibiotics- it's obvios, and still i find some people who insist that it is not possible, we all need to educate a lot more from each other, and our experiences.

Sorry for some mistakes, im not from english speeking country Smile
