I breast fed all my children. I was 19 with my first, and knew nothing, had a lot of pain, and ended up getting very bad infection. My second and third my nipples were hardened up and not so much pain, by the third I could turn my milk off on que.
I have heard something about squeezing them now to make them ready for breast feeding--i would look it up on the internet if I were you.
You can breast and bottle feed, but some baby's after going to bottle really dont care so much for nipple anymore. Some it works with just fine to do both.
I would suggest atleast 3 months of breastfeeding--that is what I did--then you take one feeding off at a time, once every three days--or something like that until you wean them all the way to the bottle.
Breast pump hurt me more than breastfeeding--but others might not have such a hard time.
To me there is nothing like the bond with child when breastfeeding--
