Q: Stopping Bc, Late Period, And False Negatives?

I am appealing to the wealth of knowledge this board seems to have. My girlfriend(fiancee not sure that's the right term, kinda new to this) stopped ortho-lo in october to switch to a new one. The doctor told her to wait for the next period before starting the new stuff.

It is now about three weeks since she should've started and nothing. She has taken two hpt's one about two - three weeks ago, when she was supposed to have started, and one a few days ago. Both came out negative. There are some warning signs like cramping and tenderness in the breasts, but she says shes not pregnant. Could the tests be false negatives and she's just being stubborn, or has the bc replaced her homones to the point she won't start?

We went through something similar to this when she started bc, but she was never three weeks late. In fact I don't ever want to hear another guy complain about that time of the month, I endured six straight months of ups and downs while they tried different bcs. This probably solidified our relationship, and yes I know we should have waited.

If anyone has had a similar experiece or any information that would help it would be much appreciated. I'm at the point of carrying her into the doctor's for a blood test, which she refuses to get. Thank you in advance to anyone who responds.

I am going through the same thing. I stopped ortho evra(patch) in june and had no period till august 12, after that had no period till oct 19, and I am now waiting till my next one but nothing so far. Took preg test came up negative. I asked the doctor about it and he said that it'll take some time for cycles to be normal after stopping bc. Is she going to go on another form of birth control? Good luck and hope everything works out.

Hey,
thanks for the reply. She is just switching from one pill to another. Her prescription ran out and we had moved away from her old doctor. She just took another test last night and it was still negative.

I think at this point it's just that she doesn't have enough hormones to start. That's why she started bc in the first place. She was constantly late. I know what your probably going through, constantly not knowing because your late. It really bites when you have to drop money on a pregnancy test every month or so. I think that's why we just decided to abstain until the wedding.

On side note I found that first response seems to be one of the best tests out there. Consumer reports rated it number one, and although it uses that annoying one line/two line crap, its supposed to detect even miniscule amounts of hcg. I hope that helps someone else out there.

Thanks again and good luck.
