Question On Birth Control
Posted: 12-06-05 02:31am

How long does it take for the pill to be effective?? Ive heard that it takes about a month to build up in your system before it actually works but you cant always believe what you hear. Im thinkin about starting ortho tri cyclin lo and I want to know as much about it as possible for example weight gain, mood swings, cramps, depression etc... If anyone out there can help me out and ease my fears it would be greatly appreciated!

As for mood swings, weight gain, it's different for every person. I learned that you never know until you try. I'm on nuvaring, and I have read both good and bad reviews, I was a bit hesitant, but I gave it a try, and I really like it. It is recommended that you use a back-up method (like a condom) during the first cycle (the first month). Again, it's different for every person, that is why there are so many different forms of the pill. Do some research, but if you sit there and anticipate weight gain and mood swings, then they're going to happen, no matter what. I'm just really cool about it, I pretend that there's nothing different about my body, so I don't feel any different!

I am on ortho lo and I have been for 3 months, and I haven't had any side effects like weight gain, or depression (but when I was on ortho novum I was extremely depressed). But, I have had like a yeast infection since I started the pill, and that is listed as one of the side effects, but I am hoping that it will go away. Other than that I really like ortho lo.

Personally I had nothing but problems with ortho tri cyclen-lo. I was on the pill for about 7 months and it was the worst 7 months of my life. I had awful mood swings, I was always depressed, I gained a whole lot of weight, I stayed bloated all the time, I was always cranky and irritable, I kept a yeast infection all the time, sometimes I bled for 5 days, sometimes 14 days, sometimes even more and variated in between, my breasts were always so so tender it almost brought tears to my eyes when my husband would even touch them! My cramps were horrible, every month I would cramp for at least 1 week before and 1 week after my period, and I was almost always nauseated. I also tried ortho-tri-cyclen for a while and it did the same things to me, but not hardly as severe. Why did I not stop taking them sooner? I really couldn't answer that! I hate going to doctors so I put it off as much as I can and I kept telling myself that maybe my body would still adjsut. But I quit taking them on my own last month and now I feel better than I have in a while. I have talked to several people that said they had no problem with tri-cyclen-lo but myself, and 2 sister-in-laws took this pill and all had similar problems. I'm not telling you not to take these pills, as every woman is different, i'm just telling you my experience.
