Does My Wife Suffer Bulimia
Posted: 12-06-05 15:41pm

I am very worried about my wife. She is of a large build and cant loose weight. She exercises and dosent eat crap food. She is soon to go on blood pressure tablets if she dosent loose weight.

She has been to the doctors and all she gets told every time is go see the dietician. Looking at the symptoms it seems to match hers. She has irregular periods sometimes dosent come on and also has got to have some sort of coating on her teeth.

Can anyone help cos im very worried and dont want to hurt her feelings.

I cannot say for sure if she is bulimic but I can tell you what to watch for. Observe how much she eats at every meal without letting her know what you're doing. Then check to see if she goes into the bathroom shortly thereafter or goes off somewhere to be by herself. If so it's possible she's using that self time to throw up any food she's eaten, especially if she's eaten to the point of stuffing herself. It is also important to watch for sign of extreme fatigue. If she sleeps a lot and I mean a lot, then it is quite possible she is depriving herself in some way. As an obese person myself (i also used to be bulimic) be sure to get all the facts before accusing her of an eating disorder. Try to find some concrete evidence of her disorder and be caring. Express your concern for her without any yelling or anger as that could push her further into her disorder. Reassure her of your support in her weight loss whether she has an eating disorder or not. I will help to encourage her to do it the right way. Hope this helps and just remember the things I told you to watch for.
