Late Period, Negative Hpt Posted: 12-08-05 09:24am
My period is two weeks late and less than
a week ago I did a home pregnancy test
which was negative. I had a blood test
today because I heard that you can get
negative hpt's for quite a while before a
positive will show. Has anyone experience
hpt's not working or not showing positive
right away?

Hi! My period`s so far 13 days late, 2
hpts and a negative. :?
I also know someone who was curious to see
what an hpt would say when she was 6
months pregnant, they both came up
negative.
So needless to say, I don`t trust them
very much !!

Back when I was younger and in college I
missed my period for 2 months. I
remember feeling different, but when I
missed the first period I didn't really
think anything about it. I took 2 hpt's
and both were negative. I kept living
my life not thinking that I could be
pregnant because my hpt's were negative.
When I missed my second period I went out
and bought 3 different brands of hpt's and
took one each morning. All were
negative. Finally, I went to the doctor
to see what was going on and when they
told me that my urine pregnancy test was
negative I told myself once again that I
was not pregnant. About 1 week after I
was told at the doctor's office that I was
not pregnant I woke up lying in a pool of
blood. I bled very heavily for about 3
weeks. I went to the er and they told
me that I was pregnant and I was having a
miscarriage. The point is, I don't know
why, but my hpt's never showed up positive
so I don't rely on them. If you think
you are pregnant and hpt's are showing up
negative, go to the doctor and request a
quantitative hcg blood test. It
wouldn't hurt.

When I was pregnant my first test was
negative. I think I tested too early
though. Later I had a posative. Its
common for that to happen. Its usually
best to wait a few days or a week after
your missed period.
