Gall Bladder Out In a Few Weeks. Posted: 12-11-05 16:19pm
Hi everyone, I am 31, and after suffering
since 17, I am finally having the bugger
out. After cameras, pills etc etc, and
several admissions the a+e, finally a
doctor who has just started at my surgery
decided to book me in for a scan to find
out exactly what is going on. I had an
ultra sound, then a binary scan, and it
was revealed I have a non-functioning gall
bladder, little comfort seeing as ive had
14 years of discomfort. I am constantly
tired and have black rings under my eyes,
and the dr has said its lack of excersise.
I recieved a letter from my health
authority, offering me an appointment at a
hospital which is privatley run, at cost
to the nhs. I phoned the number given,
and was assessed on the phone, and passed,
so was placed on their waiting list. If I
refused this offer I was told I would have
to wait about 6 months, as opposed to
weeks at the offered hospital. I have an
appointment to see the surgeon and
anesthatist (sp), on friday. I believe I
will get my date for my op then aswell. I
am nervouse,scared and aprehensive, but
excited at the same time, that finally I
am getting something done. I am also
placed on the cancelation list, so could
go in any time. Just wandering how
everyone else's experiences were. I do
feel fortunate to have been offered a
private place, and cannot 'big up' the nhs
enough for this oppurtunity.

I didnt have to wait long on the nhs, but
the surgeon I saw doesnt have a long
waiting list. I had never been in
hospital in my life apart from childbirth,
so I was very apprehensive. It was not a
bad experience. Yes I was in pain under
my right rib cage & round the
incisions, but nothing co-dydramol &
ibuprofen couldnt handle. Had mine
removed on 6th october & am more or
less back to normal now.

Not a bad experience at all. I was
working seven days after the operation.
Pain is nothing one can't handle. All I
do is not do anything physical and of
course, I watch what I eat. I was scared
as much as you are now, but believe me, it
wasn't so bad. It really wasn't. I am
now three weeks post operation.
