Seizure Diaries a Great Idea! Posted: 05-24-06 11:59am
Yes, if you currently experience seizures,
keep a diary. It doesn't have to be a
major project -- just get a notebook, name
it seizure diary and that's about all. I
have such a notebook every page has a
date. I call it my medical diary because
along with seizures, I have migraines and
year-round allergies. I draw pictures of
what my head feels like when I have
migraines (which side of head is effected,
etc). When I have a seizure, I mark the
time it occured, what I was doing when it
happened & any feelings I experience
(coldness, headaches, etc). I also put
what type of seizure I had - whether it
was pcs [partial-complex seizure]; ss
[simple seizure] or ns [nocturnal
seizure].
I have kept this type of log since I
experienced my first seizure. I can
definately say this log is the reason my
neuro took my case seriously - he saw a
pattern and ran the test needed to allow
him to make the diagnos and presribed
necessary medications to treat it.
I'm sure there's different types of
medical logs to choose from on the
internet, I prefer to keep it simple. A
store bought notebook and a pen [i fill in
the information myself].
