Bipolar Boyfriend Is Self Distructing Posted: 12-12-05 22:44pm
This is my second post- my boyfriend and I
broke up cause he found out he has
bipolar and wanted to be single, could not
deal with the relationship. Well i've
been with him for 3 years so iam not
breaking away completly ( I at least want
to be his friend) he says he still loves
me and that I am his best friend but he is
pushing me away.
He is on medication and going to therapy
but he is still doing alot of things that
are bad for him. He goes drinking with
his friends at least 3 times a week and
does not come home, just a few days ago he
got a dui. I hope this will wake him up
and take control, but what if it doesn't.
I'am so scared for him but I feel
helpless, help !!!

Um interesting it could be that he's still
loves you but is entering a mania state
where he feels like super man and doesn't
need any one. It could aso be that he
grieffing about all the sadness and
doesn't know how to deal with the label"
mental illness" I would just be there for
him and tell him he is not theres support
groups like nami and dbsa. I'd ask him
what's bothering him try to get him to
open up some and make sure he takes his
meds and see his therapist and doctor
regularly.

Meds And Drinks Posted: 01-01-06 22:45pm
He is on meds, welbutrin but still goes
out with his buddies about twice a week
and gets pretty drunk, normal for a 25
year old guy but is it ok for him to do
will on meds. I confronted him and he
said hes allowed to drink, its not a big
deal. I think he uses drinking to escape
his problems and feelings.

He should not be drinking at all while
taking any medication! Also, alcohol only
makes bipolar symptoms worse.
