Has Anyone Tried Oral Dissolution Therapy For Gallstones??? Posted: 12-16-05 00:18am
Hello,
i am a 32 year old female who has
gallstones. I had my first attack a
little over a year ago, while 7 months
pregnant with my first child (i am about
40 pounds overweight). I had several
attacks after that first one, some really
severe, others mild. I had an ultrasound
and it showed a pile of gallstones but I
was told by the ultrasound tech "i've seen
much worse". I met with a surgeon who
told me I "must" have my gallbladder out
and there was no other way. But I have
met several people who have had
laparoscopic gallbladder removal and, I
have to say, I don't really like what they
have to say. I would prefer to keep my
gallbladder. My doc said I will
"definitely" have another attack or maybe
even a "life threatening" infection...
Possibly at a "really bad time, like while
vacationing in haiti"... (lol)
anyhow, I don't want it out... That much
i'm sure of. I met with my physician a
couple of days ago for my annual physical
and he was shocked to hear I passed on
surgery. He's sending me for a second
opinion and said "once a diseased
gallbladder, always a diseased
gallbladder". He said if I plan to have
any more kids (which I do), I "must" have
the surgery, or I could risk the life of
my unborn baby.
But I definately don't want it... And I
am wondering about oral dissolution
therapy. I realize I will have to put my
dreams of getting pregnant again on
hold... But i'm willing to do it to keep
my gallbladder. Anyone tried this method?
If so, how were the results? How long
did it take? Side effects? When I go to
this other gallbladder surgeon, is there a
chance he'll flat out refuse to let me try
this method? (can they do that???) and,
lastly, I read on google that the
medication (urdox?) is expensive. How
expensive, is it???
Thanks a ton for your insight! Sorry for
writing a novel here!

Dissolving gallstones takes a long time
& isnt very effective & they come
back. If you do a search somewhere like
google.Com, you can read information about
it. Your symptoms will only get worse.
Gallstones dont go away, they just get
worse. You can end up with complications
if a gallstone gets stuck in your common
bile duct (ie with your pancreas &
liver). I have had mine removed
laparascopically & I am fine now.

Thanks for your reply and, well, it may
come to that (surgery). I'm weary of the
pancreatic cancer link, though. My
grandmother had her gallbladder out when
she was 60 and died of pancreatic cancer
at age 84. That's probably my biggest
fear right now.
I read that with oral dissolution therapy,
only 30-50% of patients see a return of
stones in 5 years. Also - I truly believe
that if if I lose weight, and if I modify
my diet... Ie, less fat & coffee,
more fiber & water, I might have a
second chance with my ole' gallbladder.
Also, I read that gallstones are a result
of diseased bile and that plenty of people
who have their gallbladders out continue
to form stones only within the primary
bile duct instead - which can be very
dangerous...
It seems that so many doctors just want a
quick fix band aid, but don't want to
address the root of the cause...

Who knows how many stones that gallbladder
has? An ultrasound is needed. They can
do a hida scan afterwards, but I wouldn't
let them do a gallbladder ejection
fraction if you have stones. There's a
risk of jamming a stone in your bile
duct.
You can live for years with
gallstones. But it could go bad
tomorrow, next week, next month, six
months, who knows. When it does go bad,
it could lead to serious complications.
It's your call. Do you feel lucky?
I hear that weight loss can sometimes
lead to more stones. This is because
your gallbladder isn't "exercised" as
often, and bile salts build up, get
stagnent, and crystalize.
[drink (1) quart of apple juice daily for
five (5) days. This will soften up the
stones. On the sixth day, skip dinner,
and 6:00 pm, take a tablespoon of epsom
salts with water. Repeat at 8:00 pm. At
10:00 pm make a cocktail of four (4)
ounces of olive oil and four (4) ounces of
freshly squeezed lemon juice. Shake
vigorously and drink right down. In the
morning, you will pass green stones,
varying from the size of grains of sand to
some as large as your thumbnail. You
won't feel a thing, but will be amazed at
the results.
My chiropractor gave me this recipe this
morning when I talked to him about some
problems I have been having. He said it
sounds like I am having gallblader
problems and suggested I try this, first
before all the medications that my doctor
wants to give me.
