Can't Seem to Get Over It!! Posted: 12-18-05 23:47pm
I have been soo down. Im only 20 is it
possible to be depressed? I have been
talking to a guy online for over a year,
and he is the only person I smile for.
Everyone else I just look at. I cant
seem to get into anything, such as family
events, talking with people at work, or
just anything interesting. Backgroung
info- I was a upbeat and mentally strong
person. But I just moved a year ago and
well I havent been the same. No friends
to see on a regular basis. I just feel
like im useless and I cant dig myself out
of a hole.. Mainly it is a empty void in
my stomach that wont fill up unless I talk
to my guy friend on the net. I dont
understand.. Please help! Or make me
understand... Am I depressed? Jen

You've diagnosed yourself well.
Congratulations.
You have the answer, and you may even see
it, but now what ?
Can you involve yourself in activities
that would put you into contact
with other people ?
Are you employed ? Are you a student ?
School and work offer certain
socializing opportunities assuming you are
willing to be brave, to take
risks, etc.
You mentioned a time frame: one year. One
year where you have been
having grave difficulties adjusting to a
new scene. You have fallen into
a rut and I think now you are inflating
the magnitude of your ills. Cut
your pain down with perspective. Be less
subjective, less you-centered.
You may be really surprised what a little
momentum can do for you if
you are able to take sensible risks,
overcome any shyness, and
venture out to meet new people (in the
flesh) within a safe, controlled
environment (school, work, through family,
etc.)
also, I would suggest you share your
problem. Talk to any and all
sympathetic family members or seek
professional help. You must
be able to vent your frustrations. Don't
let them percolate inside. Don't
let your anger or depression do your
thinking.
