Blood Test And Period= Pregnant
Posted: 12-19-05 01:38am

Hello,
im new to this board .Let me tell you my story. Back at the end of october, I thought I was pregnant. My period was light, almost non-existent. I never had sex, only foreplay, which I read could lead to pregnancy. I took a hpt at the end of october and it was negative. I booked a doctors appt on the 31st, had a urine test which came out negative, and talked to the doctor. He told me there was no chance I could be pregnant, since I had not had intercourse. He said only penetration can lead to pregnancy. I took one more hpt within the next week, and my nerves got the best of me. I had no symptoms but I worried so I went to get a blood test. Around the 12th of november I had the test done, and the results were negative. I got my period as schedualed at the end of november, it was regular. After that I went on the pill, not wanting to worry. Between then and now, the only thing I can think of as a possible symptom is shooting pain on the sides of my abdomin that lasted a few days. I started the sugar pill today so I am expecting my period. Thing is, the past few days my stomach has been looking bigger to me. I have had a cold this past week and have not eaten alot so I dont know why this is. It isn't hard or bloated, it just looks like I gained a bit of weight. Its not low in my stomach, like I imagine it would be if I was pregnant. But still....I wonder. Is it possible for that many things to be wrong? Could I still be pregnant? Im concerned because my family would be very angry, I am 20, but sex and pregnancy before marriage is not accepted. Please offer your advice.

P.S. One of the main reasons im posting this is because of debates over negative blood tests being wrong. I thought it was 100% but some say otherwise. How can you truely know unless you wait nine monthes then? :0( I had a period, like I said, and I don't know if you can have one during pregnancy. From what I read, it is like a period, only lighter and shorter.

The first few months of pregnancy you get bigger above your belly button, let me explain. The organs that fill the lower abdomen have to move outta the way for the uterus to grow, and as it is growing. The uterus is still too small to see even if you were over 2 months or almost 3 months.

By the end of three months and into the 4th or sometimes even later you will start to see the lower stomach sticking out more than upper stomach.

It is very uncommon to fail a blood test--but it is possible. Urine tests are false negative all the time though. Are you sure he did a blood test. I asked one .Dr to do blood test preg on me and just found out 3 days ago all he did was the urine test.

I am uncertain whether I think you might be or not. But I do know pple have been known to have spotting, lite periods and even normal periods while pregnant. My mom had normal periods for 6 months with my sister who she carried 6 months. No periods with the other 4 pregnancy's.

You're not pregnant. You did not have sex, all the test came back negative and you had your period. There is no way you're pregnant.

Joanna, how did he just do a urine test and you not know. Did he not stick a needle in your arm??

Sometimes you just get this feeling and you just know your pregnant.........

I had done 5 hpt including the one at dr office and if I remeber it was the second that came out positive and the rest negative even the one at dr office which was #3 hpt results are nor guranteed but I knew I was pregnant even though the dr & hubby told me I wasnt and this was may 27... Although they did say it could have been to early but he highly doubted it even though I told him I had already one positive.

Story short im due in 7 1/2 weeks and everyone was wrong but I didnt get bloodwork done but dr didnt see a point sometimes instinct overcomes the test. For the pregnancy with my daughter I had the same feeling but I did the waiting game and the test came out positive (i used a cheap test this time around as my daughter I got an expensive one I almost wonder if brands have something to do with it.........Forgot to add that the reason they highly doubted me being pregnant is I was on the pill

wish you luck

I agree, even though I felt like I was for a long time. It's a scary thought to get out of your head.

he took blood and ran tests but not the blood .H.C.G, or atleast I dont think so for the blood test at the hospital was 150$ and the .H.C.G at the doc was only 40$

i dont know I could be wrong--but that is a great difference in price. The one at the hospital had the description--blood test .H.C.G, but the one at dr said pregnancy test or something. He also took urine which they always do at gyno.
