Help -- Small Baby Head At 5 1/2 Months Posted: 12-21-05 15:20pm
My wife and I are expecting our first
child, however we have a little scare
happening to us right now and i'm hoping
someone can help us or give us some
advice.
Previously we have been in for quite a few
ultrasounds and everything has been fine,
our second to last one consisted of taking
measurements of the baby's head, legs,
arms, etc. To see how it's developing.
The baby was not cooperating with us on
this one and we couldn't get good shots of
the spine, but everything else was fine.
Because of this we had to go in after
another 3-4 weeks to get better shots of
the spine. So we did.
That next appointment happened yesterday
and this time the radiologist said we got
great shots of the spine. However later
that night we received a call from my
wife's "baby doctor" that said she had
heard from the radiologist that the baby's
head was smaller than normal and had to be
monitored so to come back for another
ultrasound in 3 weeks. Also she said that
we may have to make arrangements to give
birth at another hospital if it persisted.
Everything else was fine, the placenta,
blood flow, body, legs, etc. My wife was
so upset she didn't ask any questions and
told the Dr. Goodbye. So now we are
trying to get a hold of her to get more
answers but as you can tell we are very
worried as to what this could be or what
this means.
Sooooo, hopefully someone can help us.
Some of our questions are below:
1. What does this mean? My wife does not
drink, smoke, etc. And is making sure she
is living a healthy life style for our
child.
2. Is this something we should worry
about?
3. Does this mean our child is handicap
and if so what do we need to do to find
out what is going on.
4. In 3-4 weeks at our next ultrasound
will things have had the possibility for
the head to catch up in development or
will the head still be small?
5. If there is a problem why are they
telling us to come back in 3-4 weeks for
another ultrasound? Why not sooner?
6. Why would my wife have to go to
another hospital for delivery? Could it
be delivered premature and if so is that
the reason?
7. If everything else in there looks
"excellent" as far as baby development
goes is this head thing something very
minor?
8. Any other
information/experiences/questions to ask,
etc. Would be much appreciated.
I'm guessing that if the Dr. Called us
last night something must be wrong that
she isn't quite telling us yet, but we're
not sure.
Thank you all!
Sincerely,
worried father
