Q: the Pill & the Period????

I just wanted to ask a question about the pill and having a period. I have a friend who went on the pill after losing a baby about two months ago, she doesn't want to get pregnant again so soon. However, she wasn't quite sure when her period wud return, as you never really do after a d & c. Well, she went on the pill and decided that she wud continue to take them until after xmas, so when one pack was finished she started another pack, hoping to keep her period away. However, she was out last nite and it started to come, although she is still taking the pill.
What I guess we wud both like to know is: shud she stop taking the pill and let her period come now, or shud she continue taking it, and if she does will her period eventually stop on its own and allow her to have the kind of xmas she wants to have, which is period free?
You see she gets really bad cramps and usually has to be hospitalized and she really didn't want to have to go thru that this xmas, so she doesn't want her period to come at all, or at least not right now.
So what shud she do about this whole pill thing?
Any suggestions?
