Quiting Ultram And Associated Meds
Posted: 12-25-05 08:19am

My backpain from a work injury has led me down many paths and through many doctors. After years of passing me around to different doctors, including chiropractors,accupuncture,etc..I was prescribed ultram.
It was ok for the first year but then I got tired of being, what my husband calls "hooked up". When I tried to quit it was horrible. I couldn't sleep, was tingling all over. I assumed this a withdrawal symptom so talked to my doctor again. He prescribed lycra and cyclobenzaprine to help ease the pain and break away from ultram. So far it is not working well. Still cant sleep. To compound things I will be starting a new job on the west coast soon and don't want all this junk in my system when I do the required u/a test. Multiple problems here huh?
First question, best way to quit ultram
second question, how long does it take to get all this junk from my system. Thanks and merry christmas

I am not too sure what lycra is other than a type of synthetic nylon material so I cannot comment on that but as far as taking "ultram", I am not sure why you are worried about taking that med as a part of your routine. It is a very well proven non-narcotic analgesic that will not harm your system as long as it is not abused.

I know you feel as though you have been through the ringer and with back pain, most of us chronic sufferers have truly been through the ringer. As far as I can see from what you have given us for info, you need to be taking the ultram and the flexeril combined to have both of them work together and allow you to get on with life with as little pain as possible.

If your restless leg problem does not stop within a week of stopping the pain meds, you should see your doctor about maybe prescribing topamax for the short term withdrawl symptoms you are having.

Good luck and if you want to put a bit more info here, I am sure there are some of the regulars to this forum that may be able to offer some advice.

Thanks brian for your help and opinion. It was my mistake in the spelling of the medication. It is lyrica and is a muscle relaxer that works through the central nervous system ( according to the doctor ). I appreciate that the medication (ultram) works to some degree as do the others, but cost aside, I just don't want to take prescription drugs. I have had abuse issues when younger and this is too close to the wrong path. It is uncomfortable to say the least. There has to be organic or natura-pathic methods that can achieve the same results.
If my pain is something I have to live with then taking meds the rest of my life is not something I want to do. How can you not go from 3 per day to 7 or more per day when you system is sure to get use to the medication? It may be that I return to this method of pain relief but I want to try other methods. If I am unsuccesful and cannot control the pain perhaps that is my only path, but till I try something else I don't want to be on prescription drugs. The jury is still out as I am still searching but am determined to find a better way. Thanks again for your input.

Talk to your Dr. About an scs(stim) or a pain pump, they seem to be helping some people that have chronic pain. I do understand where you are comming from, I have pain 24/7 and after a while pain meds do not help.
Good luck!

Someone please help

i was put on ultram/tramadol for migraines about 8 months ago, I started taking them as I should then I kep taking more untill I got up to 15-20 a day! My dr wont give me more, tells me that I need to be seen. I have no insurance, I am coming off these cold turkey and I feel like i'd rather die. Im only 27. I have night sweats, chills, leg spasms. Muscle aches and diarreah. Im very emotional with no energy. I sit at work crying. I've missed too many days to take time off and have already talked to my boss about this, he told me he'd fire me if I missed another day even after I told him about the meds.
I told hubby awhile ago (the 1st time I tried to quit ) not supportive at all. He doesnt know I still use them. So I would buy them from a friend. I just called and left a message for the doc who gave them to me, not a very nice one. I have called him before explaining the situation and he'd say he's never heard of ultram withdrawal. He wont give me any help at all. I cannot go see any other doc because I have no insurance.
A friend gave me klonopin to help but I have 2 1/2 left and they make me sooooooooooo tired. I slept for 12 hours last night. Does anyone have any suggestions??!
